This was a HARD class, but his lectures were interesting. He is very approachable. The readings were boring, and you can't skim them, because they are used for the tests. 2 essay tests and a term paper.

Great class great professor! He gives you essay topic for exams before the midterm. The text book is a little bit hard to understand but if you go the class, he will explain all the theories in detail. He's a nice guy and he hopes everyone gets full points in his class. The grade is not curved, so if you work hard, you should be fine:)

I enjoyed this class! I had never taken a sociology class before, so had no idea what to expect. I found some of the readings a little difficult, but everything is explained in class. You get the essay topics in advance for tests. I would recommend this class. I wouldn't call this class easy, but I wouldn't call it super difficult either.

This class was easy, but Wender made things very complicated with his unclear directions. Our TA Julie saved the day and really consolidated his lectures to make them more understandable. Pretty sure I will nearly 4.0 this class, it's easy... but not the most exciting class.

Wender is my favorite professor so far at UW. His lectures were both engaging and informative, and he works so hard to make sure everyone is on the same page and prepared for his exams. He makes the class as interactive as a lecture can be, and is extremely passionate about his student's success.

This man is one of the most inspirational people I've ever met, and one of the most intelligent. He is a former cop, very personable, and funny. His lectures are engaging, emotionally moving, and sometimes hilarious. He wants you to learn, and wants to change things in society. he isn't an 'easy' grader, but he is very very fair. Take his class.

Go to his lectures, he explains what he wanted you to get from the readings. And don't miss sections, that is where you get all participation. Very engaging. Used to be a cop so he knows the criminal justice system better than most.

Nice professor but he makes it clear that one of his main goals is to prepare you for the "real world," which I found extremely annoying. I think he failed to realize that most of us had jobs, some had children, and were paying bills, I think it is safe to say we all knew how to function in the real world. Reading is a must. Tough class, but good.

I found this class quite insightful and useful. Probably because I have some interest in sociology and I like essay-based tests more than multiple choice exams. If you go to lecture, you only need to skim your textbook, but I recommend reading it anyway because it makes understanding the context easier. Also he can be CRAZY sometimes in lecture.

This is not the conventional scantron/multiple choice type of class. It takes a lot of reading and truly understanding the concepts in order to get a good grade. Professor Wender is great! He pushes you to think outside the box and he actually presents "real world" situations instead of reading straight out of the text. Be prepared for essays.

The best professor I've ever had in five years of university. Class is interesting and engaging, readings are unconventional at times and also interesting, all tests are open book open notes. Makes me want to attend lectures.

I have taken two classes from Jonathan. He is an amazing teacher. He loves to teach and really cares that his students understand the subject matter. His expectations are clear cut and while he does expect excellence success is well within reach.

Wender is favorite professor at UW! Love all his antics and real-life examples. He is so engaging and really cares about the success of the students. I will really miss being in this class. Be sure to take good notes and do the readings and you'll be fine. Getting a good grade isn't as hard as people say it is.

Jonathan is, perhaps, one of the best professors I've ever had. He isn't the easiest grader, but simultaneously he tells you EXACTLY what to do to get a good grade. His lectures are very engrossing and fun to follow, and his overhead slides (he doesn't use PowerPoint) ENHANCE his lecture, rather than copy it. Really, truly cares about his students.

Wender is a very engaging prof. Makes the class fun even though the material is dry. Lots of readings but Wender's summary of them in class helps a lot. 2 tests, open notes/book and pop quizzes in sections. Overall, I learned a lot about law and society in this class and highly recommend him.
