Sure he is knowledgeable but he seems to think he is better than his setting which is never a quality of truly wise scholars or good professors. You can learn from him but expect him to treat you and all other students with very little respect.

Not the best polisci teacher I've had but he's okay. 2 tests, some homework, and a paper and that makes up your grade. Would not recommend taking this teacher. One thing is for sure DO NOT COME LATE TO THIS CLASS

Very well versed instructor. Tests can be a little tricky but so what. You will actually learn something and be a better knowledgable individual. He expects you to read the material and be prepared to explain what you've read. Taking him again for research methods.

I agree with the others who say Dr Gurses is tough but he is very clear in what he expects. As long as you follow his directions, sit up front, stay engaged, and do what he expects, this is a GREAT class and you will learn a lot. He is very challenging, and I appreciate that in a professor. If you're going to school to learn he's a great choice.

Professor Gurses is awesome. I learned a lot in his class. He actively engages his students when he lectures. Sit in the front! Read all the chapters and be prepared to discuss what you've read. Do not take this class if you are generally disruptive, tardy, or always on your phone or computer in class. Don't be lazy. If you are, get lost.

Well versed in foreign politics, esp middle east. Classes consist mainly of participatory discussions. Sit up front, it helps. He does have high expectations of his students and is really challenging. I learned a lot and will definately take more of his classes.

He is very knowledgeable, however I agree with others who say this is NOT an easy A class. I hate the way the grades are presented (2 tests, 1 paper, and participation).

In 4 years I have only come across 2-3 other professors who so actively engage students in class. Definitely not the professor to take if looking for an easy A, but by far one of the most informative. Knows what he's teaching and is very passionate about the subject.

Gurses is very knowledgable, yet not very personable. Very harsh grading style on term paper. 2 tests (35% each) 10 page term paper (20%) + participation (10%). Had us write what grade we "honestly think" we deserve for participation and gave it to us. Does not know you unless you sit in the front. Would take with a diff professor if I were you.

I recently took Research Methods, my second class with Mr. Mehmet Gurses. Not only do I don't think I'll pass, but he has a vendetta against me, for no reason. The term paper I wrote had 2 minor mistakes, got a 70. He's a harsh grader, and you MUST, come well-read to class. His exam questions are extremely tricky and poorly-written.

Class:Comparative Politics. Not a difficult class!Sit up front so he can recognize you, Key points:Rely heavy on the book for exams & you will do VERY well. Term paper is easy,but make sure you cite properly.He takes off more points for incorrect citations & format V.S content.Midterm is multiple choice,Final is a bit harder inc 2 essay questions.

Prof. Gurses is extremely straight forward about what he requires in his class. If you are looking for an easy class, an easy "A", Just show up when you want...then his class is NOT for you! Prof. Gurses is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and will push those of you, like myself, who need it. Great Prof. to help prepare you for Grad. school

He is the best teacher ! I have learned so much from him both about the subject being tested on as well as outside material that is helpful as a political science major. He will help you at anytime and he gives a review sheet before test that is exactly what is on the test. But you should attend class and read the material it helps a lot !

Dr. Gurses is a great professor. I would take him again in a heartbeat. You must study for his class and there is a lot of reading assignments but he is a very fair grader and you'll get what you earned. He doesn't stress attendance but if you do show up, he'll often give you extra credit for doing so.

GREAT professor! This is not an easy class however, the professor is very engaging and makes it fun/interesting. He is also very understanding and gets to know everyone well. He is a very fair grader. I would definitely take a class with him again, without a doubt.

Great Professor! Will take again! this is not for the weak! forget about your computers, they are not permitted and well worth it! I am extremely thankful for that, and have learned so much! He's a fabulous professor and i recommend him to anyone! Sometimes classes are once a week which is difficult, but worth it. Be prepared to study!!!!!
