I love Michael. You won't find a sweeter or more passionate teacher. Yes, sometimes the class runs long and it can be a little dull if you don't love film, but Michael is awesome, most people take him again if they can.

I really enjoyed professor Garber's class. He was extremely enthusiastic about the subject matter and really had creative and innovative ways to keep students involved in the class and the films. If you watch the films and do the work you will receive a good grade which is the way that it should be. To top it off he's a very nice guy!

This class was about post-modernism, which is not the easiest subject to grasp. He was clear, but not crystal. He is funny and quirky and I enjoyed his class. They are very long and he goes until the last minute, but because the movies are so good and there is much class discussion, you don't really notice it. Nice guy!

Garber is enthusiastic, knowledgeable and energetic. Tiered approach to writing papers is a great way to spread the work out over a semester, actually TEACHES WRITING. Tries to engage everyone in discussions about the films watched, and develops a good rapport with his class. I have taken both American Film courses with him, highly recommend.

He plays a film for most of the class, and has you write a small reaction and comment on someone else reaction. When he grades them, his comments are helpful and uplifting. Of all the readings he assigns he doesn't ask you to talk about them. Hes not that interesting but he tries to be. He also is very nice.

Sweet guy, but utterly terrible lecturer. Course work was easy/concepts simple, but he simply cannot lecture. 3000 level class seemed more like a high school course. I had to drop the course it was so bad.

Moderately interesting classes but absurd amount of reading assignments and mucho homework. Nitpicking criticisms.

Mr. Garber is an excellent professor who stimulated an interest in a subject that I was not at all enthusiastic about prior to his class. He is easy going, friendly, funny and very intelligent. After taking one of his film courses I found myself watching movies in a whole new "light". I recommend taking a class of his to any student.

Alot of people complained about the amount of work- in class writing and one research paper- but I found it easy to complete. Weekly assignments were geared to make us work on the research paper, so when it was due I didn't have to scramble to get it done, most of it was ready to go.

The Class itself is not hard, however the amount of work required to complete this course is like writing your Senior thesis. Prof. Garbers' inexperience in teaching is the cause for the lack of proper structure. The class runs from 6:30 pm-10:00 pm with a 10 min break. Although, he is very competent in his field, I will never refer him to anyone.
