He is one of the best instructor that has ever taught me. He is so funny yet so serious about his job. He really knows what he is doing, and he makes sure everyone's on the same page. If you focus and attend almost all of his lectures, you will get an easy A. RECOMMENDED.

He is absolutely amazing. By far the best instructor I have ever had. He was my friend as well as professor. My writing and speaking abilities were significantly improved after both of the classes I took with him. He is outstanding and keeps you interested in relatable topics. He's a great guy and he gets on your level and feels like your peer.

its composition 101, so there's obviously quite a bit of writing involved, but not as much as you'd think. the class was pretty easy, and the only real key is to read the assignments, do the papers on time (even if its half assed, you get to revise) and even if your papers are good the first time around, revise ALOT before passing in the portfolio

Interesting fellow. Confusing American accent. Handsome. Pretty bright and curious. He looks like a combination of Cillian Murphy, Willem Dafoe, and the little boy from E.T. Just be on top of your stuff and things will be fine.

Professor Smoak is an excellent teacher. He values what his students have to say, and he is knows a lot about American literature. I would say that he is an easy grader as long as you are doing your part as a student. I am personally not a big fan of American literature, but by the middle of the class I found the readings to be very enjoyable.

Awesome professor. Definitely helped me gain writing skills. He doesn't grade your papers until the final portfolio, until then they are graded for completion. But he is extremely helpful when it comes to fixing your papers. You must read the homework to pass his quizzes though.

Great professor! Really easy to get along with. He will help you with anything and won't make you feel stupid about any questions you ask. His teaching style will keep you interested and he will keep you laughing.

DR. Smoak is an interesting teacher. He uses subject for class that America faces everyday. Not very hard at all, even though it was Writing Intensive. But you will need his books.

This man knows what he is talking about. I took ENG 105 with the intention of simply reading sparknotes and getting a semi-decent grade. I did poorly on some of the quizes due to my lack of effort, however his in class discussions were extremely productive. I managed an 88 on the final, having not read 2 of the books. Respectable and friendly.

I had Dr. Smoak for Intro to Narrative. I found his class to be thought provoking and always interesting. If you enjoy class discussions this is the class for you. You will never read a novel the same way again! He's also a musician and in a rock band. He's a pretty cool guy and very approachable

Dr. Smoak was an awsome professor. I feel like I learned so much in his class. He is hard however. You will have alot to write. He's pretty funny though, made me laugh alot. Very willing to help. He is KILLER on passive verbs. If you have them on your paper, he will grill you. But I highly recommend him.
