I was really intimidated by his testing format at first but he gives you the essay questions to learn weeks ahead of time and he lets you email him answers and tells you what you're missing, if anything. I really enjoyed this class and I especially enjoyed learning from him, he's a great guy.

Took Neurobiology with him, very helpful and easy grader on tests. Gives the test questions months before the test so you can prepare. Knows the material very well. Attendance is not mandatory if you can study from slides posted online better but I enjoyed going to his class. Always willing to answer questions.

Mike is very intelligent and understands the material so well that he doesn't teach out of the text book. He gives the exam essays a month before the exam, and is very lenient. He has no problems answering questions, and won't BS you if he doesn't know. Overall, a very good instructor.

He gives the essays for the exams months before, and gives feedback on practice ones. If you do not get an A in this class it is a direct reflection of your own lack of motivation. Every bit of information needed is on the slides too. I took none of the pre-reqs and I have an A in it because I put even a little effort into it. Very clear instructor

He doesn't know the material very well, and cannot explain concepts clearly. Questions asked beyond what is taught in the book are met with no knowledge, and minimal explanation. Slides are just blocks of text taken directly from the book. He offers no help with exams. And seems generally confused. Take PSY365 or PSY466 instead.

I thought this class was going to be brutal. Mike makes the class kind of difficult because he gives only essay exams. I personally hate this. He his very helpful in preparing for the test & even gives out potential exam questions early so we can submit them to him for feedback.Class is boring but informative.

straight and to the point. doesn't keep people in class longer than he needs any given week. we went from having a tought time reading psych articles to being able to write one by the end of the semester, painlessly. if you have to take research methods take the lab with him.

He was OK, not the best, he seemed nice to some students while he was capable of being less than polite to others. He had a slective nature towards people. I didn't like some of the jokes he made.

i just took reserch methods with mr. fixaris & i couldnt be more satsified. grad student or not, he knew what he was taqlking about & was a huge help both inside & outsideof class. he was very flexable about due dates & he grades easy, but dont get me wrong, he also really cares about getting the material across to his students. i learned a lot.

90% of the instructors at UMaine seem to be TA's or Grad Students. It would be nice to actually see a class where a real professor taught. And when you do see a Umaine Professor they're usually terrible. Michael Fixaris has a rotating disposistion that is a bit weird but he's a grad student filling in.

This person is not a teacher, instructor, nor is he a professor, he isn't listed on the University of Maine website in the psychology dept as staff or faculty.

Kind of a weird guy, no doubt, but if you want to succeed in a PSY 100 class, take one with Mike as a TA. He's pretty funny, kind of goofy, but he really wants everyone to succeed. I'm glad I had him.

Mike rocks. Excellent review sessions. Willingness to meet at nearly any time. Knows his stuff, but isn't afraid to admit when he doesn't. He posts a review sheet prior to the exams that are HIGHLY effective.
