CHEM 262 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: You need it sometimes Rater Interest: Meh Grade Received: N/A

this was a ROUGH class. Had hixson for chem 261 & liked him MUCH better. Lahti was confusing in class and went SO fast. 4 tests plus final. Lowest of 4 is dropped. Class had no scale!! Be ready to put lots and lots of time into this class if you want a B or higher.

CHEM261 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: It's my life Grade Received: N/A

Paul Lahti is a humble genius with infinite patience for strong accents and stupid questions. He will take you under his wing during office hours and go HAM on whatever chemistry related topic that you want. He is honestly the best I've ever seen

CHEM261 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: It's a must have Rater Interest: Sorta interested Grade Received: N/A

Organic chemistry is no breeze, but Lahti is one of the greatest professors I've ever had. I got a C+ in Chem2, so I was terrified of Orgo, but I pulled an A- because I did ALL the HW and the extra credit, read the book, did many practice problems from the book and went to class. It paid off because now he knows my face. All depends on YOUR effort!

CHEM261 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

I thoroughly enjoy Lahti's lectures! He is very helpful and organized. Exams are open notes but honestly notes don't really help at all (even if you take your own from the book.) Lahti's exams test well how you can apply knowledge rather than how much you've learned from the homework/notes. One of the most fair professors I've had at umass.

Has absolutely no interest in his job and does not care at all for the students. Like all his dept. he is extremely arrogant and it is all about him and his research. Students can go to the useless unknowledgeable TAs and fail. Tragedy of UMASS.

chem262 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Barely cracked it open Rater Interest: Meh Grade Received: N/A

Lahti is a really nice guy who really knows what he's talking about. Unfortunately, the material is really hard. His exams are open notes, but the questions are like reading new material, which makes it hard to study. It takes a lot of effort, but Lahti and the TAs really did their best to make it as easier.

Lahti is very nice, helpful and fair. The study guides that he posts before each exam is the key to do well in them. The material is not easy, but if you put in the work and go to his office hours it will pay off in the end. This school needs more professors like him...no question he deserves the Distinguished Teaching Award.

I heart Lahti times a lot. He is amazing. Anyone who says otherwise should be deported.

CHEM261 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: You need it sometimes Rater Interest: Low Grade Received: N/A

He is a great guy who explains the basics of organic chemistry very well during lecture. However, his exams are open notes and he compensates for this by making them impossible. At the end -- he'll scale your grade, he understands that not all of his students want to be chemists.

CHEM261 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: It's a must have Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

A good professor who wants everyone to do well, the problem is in the size of the class. Nearly inaccessible and his lectures tend to oversimplify, which makes his nigh impossible exams that much harder.
