Bob Waxler is an inspiration. He is so deeply passionate about his content. Take his class, it changed my outlook on literature and life.

Upper level literature course on topic of "the journey"--Waxler thinks life is a journey and literature is, too. Could be he's right. Risky business anyway. I dig it!

Liked the deep exploration of specific poems from the period. Some discussion, a few quizzes, a lot of analysis. Like poetry a lot better now.

Very clear instructions, wants everyone to participate. If you read the stories and attend class you will receive a good grade. Makes class interesting and choosing books with great topics. Overall a great professor.

I like the way Waxler chooses interesting books and the way we engage in discussion, although the classes seem too big for that purpose. A lot of quizzes--keep us reading. And a couple of longer essays. Makes literature seem worthwhile.

Best lit professor at UMD. Workload is reasonable and content is interesting. The man knows his stuff!

You need to read the books carefully if you want to get the most out of the course, but the discussions are very helpful. A lot of quizzes, but Waxler never goes over them in class, so it's not worthwhile to try to hold onto the quizzes until the end of class. The reading is substantial but usually very interesting.

took both lit&society and jewish lit classes. didnt read one book and got an A. if you attend class and pay attention to the discussion super easy to get a good grade. weekly quizzes are easy as well. if you take long enough you just pass it in at the end of class (after hes gone over all the answers)

Lit and Society. A lot of books to read, but they were all interesting. The discussions with the prof. made the classes even more interesting. I like books much better now that I had Waxler to guide me.

This course is about Jewish literature (mainly American), but it is really about my life and family--at least it made me think about them and past generations, too. And i am not Jewish.

Survey of British Literature 2 Interesting, especially for a survey type course. Gave us good sweep of the 19th and 20th centuries--starting with William Blake and the Romantics Poets--Waxler's favorites, I think. Rigorous reading and good discussions. Three essays and a lot of quizzes. Could also memorize poems for extra credit--cool!

Jewish literature.Actually turns out to be similar in approach to other lit courses I have had with Waxler. Lot of reading of stories and lot of conversation. Quizzes each week and some essays. Discussions are the best part.

Amazing professor! Don't be intimidated by the 10 required readings! All the novels were interesting and fairly easy to read. I highly recommend him! Lots of reading (a book a week) but you'll be better for it! 1 mdterm, 1 final, both essay. A 5 question quiz/week on the book of the week. Easy A if you enjoy reading.

My favorite Professor! I have taken countless classes with him and find myself growing as a person in each one! He genuinely cares about each individual's development. He is such an interesting guy and is so down to earth. His classes are engaging and his quizzes are straight forward as long as you've read the material. A+. I'm inspired by him!

Cool exploration of modern literature focused on how we struggle to discover identity in society--I think students see themselves in the characters and class discussion. A real learning experience.

Professor Waxler is the man! Great teacher, funny guy, interesting class. He really knows his stuff and it's not boring at all. One quiz every week (which are easy if you read and pay attention) and two big papers. I wish more professors were like him!
