International relations with this professor. Entered class very interested in the subject, left discouraged from it completely. This class could be much more fun and engaging for students considering how the topics of discussion can affect us. But this professor is overly technical on the subject and his demeanor is way too serious 4 a intro class

Chau is very hard to please, he is never satisfied with your work, and isn't very clear on what he wants. He's a good professor, he just needs to lighten a little.

Chau is ridiculously serious professor. He expects of you what he expects of himself, perfection. Pay attention, read the material and read every line of the syllabus. Above all, remember "To the extent..."

If you wish to succeed in Dr Chau's class pay attention, participate, ask questions, and FOLLOW THE SYLLABUS. If you follow the syllabus, ask for a sample paper, and meticulously follow both, you will not fail your written assignments. Dr. Chau is interested in seeing how well you follow directions, and unfortunately, many people don't.

Do not expect to be handed down an easy grade. You work for it, and as far as complaints of lecturing, it is a graduate seminar, not and undergrad powerpoint class. Class discussion drives the seminar. Do your work and write at a graduate level, stricly adhereing tp his guidlines and you will be fine.

By far the worst professor in the PSCI department. He lectures for 10-20 min and then has class give presentations for 3-3.5 hours. He know the material he is teaching but he does not teach anything. He is not very helpful when asked for advice on assignment nor is he clear on what he wants. Avoid him if you can you will be happy you did.

You will not be spoon fed the materials. It will require initiative. The required weekly presentation greatly enhanced my speaking skills, and through the research that was required for the presentation, I learned so much.

In order to be successful in Dr. Chau's class, one must take the initiative and show Dr. Chau that one desires to learn the material. It is very much a seminar style course with guidance. Surely, one's ability to write, speak and present in a professional will be greatly enhanced after the course.

Chau should have paid my research team for giving him a weekly education plus he pocketed our research for his personal use without even citing us. Total waste of time and money taking his course. His 5 minutes a week of smart ass comments didn?t even intellectually qualify as graduate level.Be prepared to bomb you papers on footnote format alone.

Professor rarely lectures. Majority of the class was student presentations. Must take the iniative to read the book yourself. Do not rely on the other students' presentations to take place of the readings.

Below average for the dept. when it comes to getting help. Never really knew what he wanted. I asked a few times and it seemed that he was mad at me for asking for his help. The other Profs. are very helpful during their office hours are during class. The students teach his class and you don't learn anything. Complete waste of time.Never Again

Avoid if possible the prof is more willing to speak for 10mins in a 4-hr class and then let the students discuss. It doesn't sound like a bad plan until ONLY the ones who have a comment on EVERYTHING takes the floor, snooze-fest for the rest of the class. No direction in class. Brings personal emotions into the class room.
