"Gives good feedback" "Tests? Not many" "Skip class? You won't pass."

great teacher. He is a fair grader and provides feedback on each essay. nice guy with good humor. even though the subject material can be hard, he clearly summarizes it in lecture.

HONR 123 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: Not Mandatory Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Sorta interested Grade Received: A-

Parvin is a good teacher, funny and kinda dorky in a cool way. He is pretty easy to understand but the subject matter is usually dense. He is very smart, but gets sidetracked easily. Overall good though.

LSFY 103 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Meh Grade Received: N/A

Parvin is a nice guy with good intentions. It is easy to tell he loves his subject. LSFY was really easy with him and he is very lenient.

Phil-201 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: It's a must have Rater Interest: Meh Grade Received: N/A

I was not looking forward to taking the class, so that may play in. He knew his stuff but he was very dry and it was hard to stay interested.

Does a great job making important but abstract philosophical ideas accessible. Really friendly and helpful too!

Very nice guy. Very understanding. Wants the best for you and wants you to learn. Knows a lot about the subject and seems pleased to teach it.

PHIL312 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: You need it sometimes Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

Parvin's an approachable and kind professor who definitely knows his stuff. Though the material in some of the early classes was a little dry, the second textbook used is really enjoyable and full of practical examples. Game theory is valuable to a wide variety of disciplines, and thus I highly recommend the class and the professor.

PHIL310 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: It's a must have Rater Interest: Low Grade Received: N/A

Logic was an intellectual adventure. Parvin made logic (not the most exciting subject per se) really intersting. He'd walk around the class, helping us do hard deductions. (It's like taking sodoku or crosswords for credit, if sudoku were the core discipline in Western history and helpful for graduate standardized tests).

Great prof and class. Wasn't particularly interested in the subject going in, but I actually find myself thinking about the philosophy all the time now :-)

It was his first time doing decision and game theory and it showed. Parvin is one of those guys who is too smart to teach. Enjoyed the class, but it was not what I expected it to be

Dr. Parvin is one of my favorite profs here. He's super-smart and seems to know everything about everything. Very patient with questions (though this can be a bit frustrating. When your classmates have rocks for brains it would be nice if he told them so). One of the best.

Risk & Rationality was really interesting and made you think hard about how we make decisions and the tons of ways we screw up or get manipulated. Lots of class discussion, where we apply the concepts to our own areas of interest. Dr. Parvin is funny and nice and knows tons outside philosophy too, like psych and econ (good for LSFY!).

Knowledge and Values was great. Parvin requires attendance and participation in discussions (daily, w/ lectures), but it's always worth it. One big paper. Two tests (midterm and final) and a handful of quizzes to check that we read. First half of class discusses existence of God, second half discusses morals. Parvin also heads Socratic Society. =)

Prof Parvin is helpful, friendly, and funny. Sets up a very positive class vibe. He's super clear on the material and loves questions. Five reasonable quizzes and a final.
