"Inspirational" "Get ready to read" "Gives good feedback"

3 papers 5-7 pages. No textbook, but he assigns a good deal of reading, 80-120 pgswk. Know how to skim & attend lecture to help comprehend the sources. No outside sources are required for the papers. I really loved this class. Tezcan is a world class scholar and I hope to take another course with him. He's very approachable, accommodating, kind.

This professor really does his best to interest you in the topic. He is super sweet and will work with you to het that A you want. Theres a lot of reading in this class, and its not one you can miss. If you want an A work for it, otherwise theres no excuse to get anything lower than a B. You can skim through the reading and get a solid B. Take Him

HIS 006 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Low Grade Received: N/A

Lots of reading. More than I could bear. I had to bs a lot of essays because the topics required reading AND understanding of the topics presented AS WELL AS interpretation. I had Anne Marino for my TA, and she's the only reason I stayed in the class. She helped me, as I was a late add (don't do that by the way).

Do not take this class if H Naim is your TA, grading is very inconsistent with the other TA in the same class. Baki is great, but the TA ruins the course. He is pretentious and arrogant and he does not have objective writing standards. If you get Annie, take the course.

HIS 06 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

A LOT OF READING! He is an expert on what he teaches and very willing to answer questions. Most of the grade is based on papers which he gives only one week to write. His TAs, like Naim, are hard graders. I was interested in the subject but this class really turned me off on it :/ It was a little too much reading for just an intro class.

RST 10 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Low Grade Received: N/A

A bit difficult for a 2 unit class. 80% of the grade is harshly graded papers. They can be tricky, but going into his office hours for help of the papers is so helpful. You don't need to go to the lectures every time, but it does help on the papers. You won't really need to do the readings either. The quizzes are fairly easy as well.

Awesome professor, really enjoys his subject. Gives a healthy amount of reading, and structured the class into three essays. Show him that you care, go into office hours, and also meet with the reader. Baki always wants to chat with students and will be a great influence on you. This class gave me a great insight into Islam, take a class with him!

RST10 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

I hated this class. 80% of grade was from papers- graded harshly. 20% quizzes on smartsite. I had a problem with smartsite and he refused to take responsibility for anything. I really disliked his attitude. It was supposed to be about religion and politics and the ethics of it but it ended up being the opposite. Too many headaches for 2 units

He was very enthusiastic about teaching and had lots of interesting topics and guest speakers. Grading of papers was very hard though, and the class turned out to be a lot of work for a 2 unit class.

The reader is expensive, but the textbook is cheap so it evens out. He's a nice guy and a VERY fair grader. For the midterm he gives you a complete pool of questions which makes it easy to get 100%+ if you prepare. Attendence is mandatory but he's very engaging if you've done the reading, which is mandatory but he doesn't enforce. Take him!

professor tezcan is very interested adn knowledgable about his subjects. he gladly pauses midsentence to answer any question that students have and this makes for a good learning experience. expect a ridiculous load for an entry level class (over 1000 pgs in 10 weeks including the reader). pop quizzes make attendence essential

The subject that professor Tezcan teaches is VERY interesting! I did think that the assignments he gave for the class were too detailed for an "introductory" course. If you are looking to major in history, this would be great. I'm not, so i think i learned about stuff that is useless to me. Not to mention, i didn't like his scattered grading scale.

Interesting class with a ridiculous courseload. We had to write 4 papers total, do a presentation, prepare for pop quizzes, and participate in discussion. He only gives you 1 week to write each paper. This class will be a pain if you have a hard TA.

Very nice guy. Loves to engage the class in class discussions so you should do the readings! The readings are kind of long but they'll help you A LOT on you papers. Papers aren't hard at all if you do the reading.

Baki Bey was a really truly nice guy, and I fully recommend his summer program in Istanbul. It was SO MUCH FUN. I really came away with a lot from his course, both about Ottoman and modern Turkey.

He was a really nice guy. But his class was very confusing. He had us buy 6 books and a reader. His classes are based on class participation and he jumped around a lot.
