Very clear and very knowledgeable about the topic. Everyone said it was a lot of reading, but I particularly enjoyed it!
RST10
Very smart guy, approachable and super helpful. Understanding of students, easy quizzes, but the papers were challenging.

The reader is expensive, but the textbook is cheap so it evens out. He's a nice guy and a VERY fair grader. For the midterm he gives you a complete pool of questions which makes it easy to get 100%+ if you prepare. Attendence is mandatory but he's very engaging if you've done the reading, which is mandatory but he doesn't enforce. Take him!

professor tezcan is very interested adn knowledgable about his subjects. he gladly pauses midsentence to answer any question that students have and this makes for a good learning experience. expect a ridiculous load for an entry level class (over 1000 pgs in 10 weeks including the reader). pop quizzes make attendence essential

The subject that professor Tezcan teaches is VERY interesting! I did think that the assignments he gave for the class were too detailed for an "introductory" course. If you are looking to major in history, this would be great. I'm not, so i think i learned about stuff that is useless to me. Not to mention, i didn't like his scattered grading scale.

Prof. Tezcan loves the subject he teaches and it shows in his lectures and material he assigns to read. His lectures are intriguing and encourages questions.
HIS006
Interesting class with a ridiculous courseload. We had to write 4 papers total, do a presentation, prepare for pop quizzes, and participate in discussion. He only gives you 1 week to write each paper. This class will be a pain if you have a hard TA.
RST60
Very nice guy. Loves to engage the class in class discussions so you should do the readings! The readings are kind of long but they'll help you A LOT on you papers. Papers aren't hard at all if you do the reading.

Baki Bey was a really truly nice guy, and I fully recommend his summer program in Istanbul. It was SO MUCH FUN. I really came away with a lot from his course, both about Ottoman and modern Turkey.
RST65c
He was a really nice guy. But his class was very confusing. He had us buy 6 books and a reader. His classes are based on class participation and he jumped around a lot.
RST65C
I must say I was a little bit disappointing in this class. Tezcan overall is nice guy and knows his subject but doesn't do a very good job articulating it. His lectures seemed a little all over the place and hard to comprehend. The topic itself is abstract so you especially need alot of clarity. Overall, an OK class, not too difficult
RST060
Great prof! Really cares about his students and whether or not they understand the material. So nice and not a hard grader. It's a little challenging if you don't have a background in Islam, but the essays aren't impossible and he gives you the exact midterm questions as a study guide. Good class and excellent professor. :)

baki is the best!! he is a very nice guy and very approachable, and he really cares that his students learn the material. would definitely recommend to anyone!
HIS 190C
This class, which focused primarily on the Ottoman Empire, was facinating and Tezcan is an excellent professor. For this class the reading load was quite substantial but the essays (three of them) were not absolute killers. A highly recomended professor

Good lectures, slides kinda useless so get ready to listen and write. Quizes buffer grade so nice. Readings are INSANE 600pgs of reader + 2 books...*sigh* class isn't too hard as long as you read

Baki has a sense of humo rand empathizes with you if you apply yourself. However, he tends to ramble in lectures when the material is already kinda boring. He also assigns a LOT of reading. On papers, his prompts are confusing and he has somehwat high standards. He's knowledgeable, but work hard.
