Boring and uninteresting lectures and she's kind of hard grader too. Overall not recommended.

HIS209 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: It's my life Grade Received: N/A

Usually in a lecture hall. Posts powerpoints, but they're only with photographs to guide her, so they won't help much if you don't attend. She gives 7 quizzes and drops the lowest grade, but they're too hard and critical for multiple choice. Two papers, and two exams. Not really an interesting class for some reason, but too tough for a 200 level.

Knows a ton on the subject matter. However, she treats the class like we are in second grade. If history is your major this can get quite annoying and repetitive. Time was spent on understanding primary and secondary sources and how to use quotations, annoying!

Professor Emberton was great! Her class is very fair and as long as you show up to the lectures and take notes, you will do fine! She even lets you bring a notesheet to the exams where you can write anything you want to use as a cheat sheet. I am taking her civil war class next semester. I recommend her to anyone!

His161 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Meh Grade Received: N/A

Easily the least interesting course I've ever taken. It's obvious she wants nothing to do with teaching a gen-ed. I'd honestly rather watch paint dry than spend another minute in her lecture.

HIS545 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

Dr. Emberton is an excellent professor. She assigns a manageable amount of reading, and there are very few formal assignments (a film review and a non-research final paper). She also really appreciates meaningful student engagement in-class and on the class blog.

I took her 209 class too, and it was alright, but 454 was great! Very engaging, interesting material, and great discussions. She's really interested in hearing what you have to say and the books are actually good- we read A. Lincoln: Vampire Hunter! Great class, great professor, willing to help with anything you need and very approachable

HIS336 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: It's a must have Rater Interest: Low Grade Received: N/A

Professor Emberton is slow and uninteresting. She taught our 300 level History of the Old South class as though none of us had ever heard of her field before. Being treated like an imbecile is no fun. Don't bother taking a class with her, especially if you like school to be challenging.

HIS209 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

No textbook, a lot of videos, open book quizzes, weekly papers. The class was a little tedious, but prof emberton made it interesting. She is very knowledgable about the South and she added a lot of interesting information into her lectures. She focused on important topics, not battle locations etc. I'd highly recommend her to anyone.

His200s Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: It's my life Grade Received: N/A

She is one of the best professors I have had the pleasure of working with at UB. I paid attention in lecture, studied a little for her exams, and skimmed the reading and got an A. She is a very nice person and is willing to spend time with you in office hours to discuss anything. She was so good I intend to take her 400 level course this semester.

She was so boring. Her lectures consisted of her reading off of her powerpoint slides that were covered in text. She somehow managed to make a very interesting subject into my most dreaded class. I would avoid her classes is possible.

HIS209 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

I had her for HIS209 and have her for HIS336 currently. For HIS209, sometimes the readings were a little boring, but overall not bad at all for a history course. Was very passionate about subject matter and always willing to help if you were putting in an effort. 2 tests, which were pretty easy and one paper. I highly recommend Dr. Emberton.

HIS209 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: You need it sometimes Rater Interest: Sorta interested Grade Received: N/A

She wasn't a bad person, but seems rather... slow. She taught on what I'd expect to be a middle school level. It is obvious that she grew up in the south; she often made sure people realized that slavery was a bad thing! She acts as though she JUST learned about slavery yesterday and is very apologetic. Easy professor though.

I had her for the American Civil War, and it was one of my favorite courses this semester. She is helpful and if you go to class, she gives you all of the materials you need to successfully complete the class. Readings were semi-interesting, and you don't have to buy a textbook, just 3 regular chapter books.

I love Professor Emberton! Her lectures are SO interesting, just the right amount of audio visual tools and lectures that are well planned and thoughful. I have had two courses with her: The Old South and Honors Thesis 1, both of which were out of this world! She is very helpful during office hours, and a genuine person. No easy A but not2hard
