This is a hard professor, and and you will probably not pass UNLESS religion is your major. If religion is your major, you will not find a better or more qualified professor this side of the Mississippi. High risk, high reward when preparing for capstone.

Incredibly boring and monotonous lectures, lots of unclarity, unhelpful, hard grader (easy-ER if you have prior knowledge of the Bible but close to impossible if you have close to none), and defensive when students have opinions/interpretations different from his own. Definitely would NOT recommend him.

The most boring professor I have ever taken. I was excited to take Hebrew Bible but was very let down with the class. He voice is monotonous and puts you to sleep, a horrible lecturer. Not helpful in office hours. Gets defensive when students have opinions or interpretations of the bible which differ from his own. Would not recommend him.

Professor Oakman is very knowledgeable, but sometimes it is hard to pick up the point he is trying to get across. This class is relatively easy if you have had prior experience with the Bible. Overall, he is a decent prof, just make sure to pay attention in class and take lots of notes because the info WILL show up on later tests.

He grades really hard. Especially if you have no prior experience with the Bible, it will be challenging to succeed in his class because he assumes you do. Your essays have to match what he thinks, otherwise you do not get a decent grade. His clarity is not the best, which makes it difficult to prepare for his tests.

Really stimulated my interest in something I thought would be boring. Make sure you read your Bible and don't talk over him in class, he gets upset if you forget the book or talk over him. He is not narcissistic, and has a subtle sense of humor. Great professor who is passionate about teaching the New Testament (coming from a science major)

He makes it impossible to be successful in his class by his teaching style and grading everyone at a C or lower. He always laughs at students with a weird laugh.
