Made criminal law seem like an inconsistent mess. His whole scheme to teach Crim. was to distinguish between Model Penal Code and Common Law. Doesn't care about teaching substance of either, just tried to trip people on differences in elements between the two. I had him Spring 2010, hopefully he has improved since. On my list to never take again.

Awesome, caring professor with a sly sense of humor that sneaks up on you. He's always available to students during office hours and at other times. He's an academic genius who also happens to be a great professor and a good mentor if you need that. He was the high point of my 1L year.

Berman Cares. And he is really smart. He puts a lot of work in to this class and he expects you to also. Def more work than 2 credits. I like it. But I wish I knew I would be putting so much time in because I would have chosen a lighter schedule around it.

Cons Hard Grader!! Group exercises and participation. Pros - actually knows what he is talking about and entertaining. Not bad!

Prof. Berman was great. Obviously very smart, but relatable and fair. If you pay attention and keep up, you will do well. When he says "this is the step-by-step analysis you would go through on an exam question...", listen up and write it down! It's very helpful and he does it at the end of every major topic.

He definitely knows what he is talking about. If you are not interested in anti-tobacco litigation, you may not want to take him. I enjoyed his class, but he seemed to grade a bit too hard. I still recommend taking him if you want a professor with fresh knowledge in the field.

Condescending, belittling, boring. Takes an interesting subject and ruins it. Unhelpful outside of class, and a really hard grader. Which would be fine, if his instructions for what he actually wanted were comprehensible.

Condescending and belittling is what most of them said, including me (although I?m not entirely sure if that is the case). Don?t smoke in his class he hates that. Stick to the issues and don?t harbor on the irrelevant facts, otherwise you?re just wasting class time. Definitely a regimented day dweller ? work, sleep, work, die? It?s no way to live b

This professor is very enthusiastic about torts. He can be a bit awkward, but that's what makes his personality. He uses a true teaching model with group exercises, and individual assessment. He will prepare you well for the exam. He is a fair grader.

Professor Berman teaches in a highly structured and organized manner. The class discussions are never irrelevant and always deal with applying legal principles. He is very helpful and listens very carefully to any question you ask. He is a true Torts scholar and knows the subject inside and out.

I really enjoyed the class. He was so prepared and outlined the structure of the class which made organization much easier. If anything, I would have done better in the class with a quiz before the final. Since the final was with the first round of law school exams, there was a lot riding on one exam without knowing what the experience would be like

I hope it was because I had Berman as a newbie, but I thought his teaching style was scattered and unclear, leaving much room for daydreaming in class. I was frequently frustrated, but since he was so nice, I tended to feel bad for him rather than for myself!! Hopefully he'll improve....

I disagree. He is a really nice guy, but I feel as if he leaves you unprepared to take his exam. The Hypos and classroom exercises are NOT helpful. They are very "dumbed down" so to speak. And the test is infinitely harder. However, he is a REALLY nice guy though!

Professor Berman is amazing. It is only his second year teaching, but he has been the most helpful, and attentive professor by far. He is enthusiastic about the subject matter, and it is obvious that he puts in a lot of effort(with power-points for every class/subject, handouts, and hypos). He is also really funny!
