Scott is one of the best professors out there. He makes everything very clear in his lectures. If you are only "kinda ok" with computers then you will struggle because labs are computer heavy and he forces you to think about what you are doing. If you are the type that can figure out new software pretty fast then you will be fine.

I love Scott; he is so funny and knowledgeable. I did not understand his lectures very well, but he was more than willing to help outside of class time and he was very generous when grading assignments. I would definitely take his class again!

This class will make you a better scientist and problem-solver. There ends up being a lot of material not entirely covered and/or not tested. Be ready for plans/schedules to change as there is a lot to cover and Scott tends to change things often. The work is hard, but it's really interesting stuff. He's a wealth of knowledge, so get to know him.

Dr. Nowicki is an engaging instructor who always seems to make things as interesting as possible while teaching. The exams are difficult, but you look back after the course and realize how much you have learned. An excellent course and a great instructor.

Scott is a dedicated teacher who goes out of his way to help his students and engage them with the material. Not an easy A- be prepared to earn it as Scott's tests require real effort. nonetheless, after this class, I feel prepared to use GIS in my research, and create quality maps for personal and professional use. I highly recommend this class.

Dr. Nowicki is knowledgeable with GIS, a very helpful professor, and a great guy to know. I learned more than just GIS from him. He exposed his students to remote sensing, working on GIS team projects, and we learned to use structure from motion software. I would rate Dr. Nowicki no less than an A+++.

The course GIS 430 was challenging. The instructor was always available for questions. The workload was normal for a 400 level class. Instructor responded to emails quickly and the lecture style is easily understandable.

The important thing about this class is that Scott is completely available to help you with outside projects. I've never had a teacher so willing to put aside his time. The class tends to go off topic, not all lectures are helpful, 30% about google. But the lab really teaches you GIS, and from this class I know a lot more about GIS.

This class is much harder than it needs to be. Teacher is terrible, doesn't really care if the student gets the material. From his modules he lacks passion, doesn't really explains what he wants until everyone messes up, by then he is upset. Not a good quality teacher.

With this being an online class, you would think the professor would be prompt with responding to e-mails. This professor does not respond to e-mail inquiries whatsoever. If he does, responses are a month late. I also thought the tests were rather difficult for a 100 level class. It is manageable to get an A if you watch the lectures and read.

The workload for the lab portion is a huge amount for a 101 class. I studied for the tests alot, and they were difficult, and I only managed to get B's.

Nowicki is very knowledgeable and is certainly teaching because he wants to, not because he needs the money. He provides many resources to help with tests, which are fairly easy if you pay attention to lectures, and allows you to correct wrong answers for extra points. He is also funny and tries to make the class fun. You don't need the book.

Scott is very knowledgeable about this subject. When he talks, one can tell he has passion for Geology, although it may be a boring subject for some. It is actually very interesting at times, and he tries his best to keep the class interested. The tests are fairly easy. Just pay attention in class, take good notes, read the book, and you'll be ok.

Nowicki is great! He's knowledgeable & very enthusiastic about the subject. His lectures are clear and straightforward albeit dull, but he provides everything you could possibly need to succeed in his class. I read the textbook & took notes (his quizzes are based on it). His exams are EASY! Don't make the mistake of not studying & failing them.

Awesome professor! Really passionate about the subject, and does a great job of teaching it. Great sense of humor. Before his class, I was an engineering major, bored and unsure if I would graduate; After taking his class, I switched my major to Geology and am doing GREAT and having FUN!
