Interesting class about the history, culture, and neuroscience of drugs. Reading is required for weekly quizzes but not for exams. Exams stick to lecture slides but can get pretty specific, not just concept based. Pineda is a nice guy & his lecture style is just fine. If you are interested in the topic, you will do fine, if not, you may struggle.

The quizzes are tough at times taken online but it has a time limit, the exams are even harder, really pay attention to the slides from lecture for the exams. No extra credit is offered. He is a good teacher and very intelligent, it's not always necessary to attend class but better if you do. Book offers a little assistance on subjects.

He goes through some of the hardest stuff (which most neuroscience students are still foreign to, like neuronal electrical circuits) very rapidly, and expects you to figure out a lot of stuff own your own. Neuron labs are usually a big mess, since no ones sure what they are doing. He skips a lot of material on lectures, but still tests you on them

Some lectures were interesting and some were boring. Definitely a lot of material to learn. Online quizzes were pretty difficult. Labs were confusing and mostly had nothing to do with the subject learned in class. Tests require a lot of studying.

Fairly interesting material covered, but lectures tended to get repetitive. Pineda is very open about his experiences, which is cool. He's not great at answering questions, often gives open-ended answers or skims over question if it's not entirely relevant to the material. Lots of quizzes that were harder than expected! Keep up with readings.

Quizzes are tested from the book. Midterms/final are all from the lecture (the book won't help much there). Make book outlines to study for the quizzes. Listen to the podcast and use the study guide to study for the exams. There's a lot of memorization involved and he really tests on if you know the material, so try to really understand everything.

its the drugs class. that just screams great class. Pineda is great, extremely laid back and very approachable. Tests are pretty detailed and it was a tad hard without a background in bio. not easy professor but definitely one of the best

Lectures were interesting. Tests were not that hard, just put in study time. Pay attention to the study guide. That's your best friend. Know it back and forth because that's basically all the questions he'll ask on midterms + final. Quizzes were the hardest though. The class avg for quizzes were low. Overall, good prof, good class. Take!

Podcasts and posts lectures online. Skips a lot of the more technical material from his own notes. He gives you a good idea of what to expect for each quiz/test beforehand.

His lectures are very boring. The quizzes are straight from discussion, so pay attention carefully during discussion. His exams are easy; just pure memorization, no concept needed. His explanations are very unclear, but you have to bare with it since exams are based on lectures. About 1% curve for A and 3% for C. Overall, avoid.

Reading from the textbook will benefit on quizzes. But exams primarily take from lectures and slides. He knows his stuff and welcomes questions from students. It's not an easy course though. I worked my butt off and only got a B :(. No extra credit so..try your best from the very beginning!

Pineda is a great professor! He knows his stuff and teaches it well. His lectures are all posted online ahead of time and he provides all sorts of practice exams and study guides. He really wants his students to know the material and do well in the class. The material itself is a lot to remember but pretty straight forward. TAKE HIM!!

I took the course for it's title: Neurobiology of Cognition. This class was semi-early, and I was always able to keep awake. Try to sit in the front, as he tends to write on the board with not so dark chalk. He uses podcast and always laughs. The T.A.s are very knowledgeable. I'm thinking about taking the 107 series. Know keywords for quizzes!

Pretty easy class, but the book was way to detailed for lower div cogsci. If you read through his lecture slides, you'll do fine on all the quizzes. Quizzes can be a little tricky (an biologically incorrect) but everything was graded generously. Good lecturer overall and he's pretty funny. I'd take him for the 107 series too.

this class structure is the worst ive ever seen. he doesnt lecture. every day a group presents an article, for the entire class period. occasionally he asks them questions to make them feel stupid and incompetant, but other than that he does nothing all quarter. way too much work for an elective. incredibly interesting material, but not worth this.

He's an amazing prof, but his exams are SO HARD. People who had past exams definitely had an advantage, which really sucked for the curve. Reading and lecture are both ESSENTIAL, otherwise you won't do well in this class. I studied A LOT, did all the reading, and only missed 2 lectures... and I still only got a B. :( LOVE the prof and class tho!

If you plan to go to some lectures, not all, you're screwed, trust me. Also, the second midterm is infernal compared to the first.

Somewhat challenging class, but only because of the amount of memorization required. For the most part, Pineda does a great job explaining the material, & he genuinely cares whether students understand a concept or not. You'll want to read the textbook for the quizzes, but other than that, the exams are mostly lecture based.

Really nice guy. Go to office hours if you need help, because the class is somewhat challenging. Not the most exciting professor, but he gets the point across and he knows his stuff.

Enjoyed his class very much. Although it was challenging, he is a great teacher. Explains things very well. His tests are fair. Sometimes funny. Overall one of the few awesome professors i've had so far... I would definitely take a class with him again!
