Wow I hated Walsh. He was personally rude to me on more than one occasion, and the one time I emailed him a legitimate class question, he responded with a sentence fragment that made no sense and didn't relate to my question at all. His tests are highly specific which is really annoying, but fully memorize the lecture slides and you'll be fine.

Study his powerpoints and memorize everything. He also repeats test questions on the final.

Dr. Walsh is an intelligent guy, but is terrible at lecturing; don't expect him to keep you awake in class. Also, the information that he lectures on his very 'complex' in the sense that you HAVE to study hard. Do not underestimate his questions... Just go to class, try to pay attention, and study. You'll get an A.

Do not underestimate his tests, start memorizing his slides word for word early on. His tests and lecture are really easy because he basically reads off the slide but he will test you on anything he included on his slides. Basically, do your due diligence and his test will be cake.

Think hard before taking this class. Walsh is a great professor and has extremely fair curves - 48% average on the first exam made a 75% become an A. Make sure you do the homework on your own every week and email/go to office hours for any questions you have. Exams are very much like the homework and practice problems he posts.

Dr Walsh knows his stuff, he's really eloquent, but sometimes goes so fast that it's hard to keep up with what he's saying. I would recommend finding someone who has already taken this class and getting their old notes and problem sets from them

Expects you to learn a lot, tests are hard. However, he is very good at explaining things clearly and if you go to class and do the homework, you should do fine. Test averages are very low but he curves. (my 55% became an 86% on exam 1)

Dr. Walsh is a funny guy, but the amount of information he expects you to memorize compared to the amount he actually tests you on is ridiculous. He won't put together any comprehensive study materials which makes going through his thousands of slides tedious. I would recommend taking another teacher for 182. AlthoughHunter and Bronstein were great

Very vague during review sessions for exams. He doesn't make it clear what will be on the tests and demands a LOT of memorization for an introductory course. He speaks incredibly fast and makes it difficult to take notes. I do not recommend this course to others.

Had him with Hunter and Bronstein. He covers SO much material in so little time (and goes WAY TOO FAST) and he doesn't tell you the parts that are important, so you're expected to memorize all of the animal classes and phyla. It's awful. However, he has a good sense of humor.

Dr. Walsh is an ok professor. He is easy to follow during lecture, and makes fun of ASU all of the time. However, he is never clear on what will be on the exams. He will spew tons of info during class that you think will be on exam, then he ends up testing you on things he never talked about. He is either a hit or miss, look for other options first

Walsh is a funny guy who tries his hardest to make genetics interesting. Weekly practice sets are brutal (google to find solutions from his old websites)and I would just have the concepts on the problem sets DOWN for the exams. He curves pretty generously so don't freak out. Oh, and if you hate ASU with a passion of 1000 suns you will love him.

Hard class, avoid it if you can. Weekly homeworks and brutal tests, with averages often in the 50-60 range (but he curves). Doesn't offer enoough practice material for exams. STUDY HARD and focus on problem sets/old exams (just Google search)rather than memorize PowerPoints. Very boring class but he made it as interesting as possible.

He lectures mainly off of powerpoint slides that are often hard to follow. If you reread them multiple times and go to discussion/office hours the class isn't that difficult. Very interesting subject.

Clear, engaging lecturer, but the course is quite dense and math heavy. Your grade is based solely on 3 tests and problem sets, which is intimidating because the tests aren't easy. Come to class for his ASU jokes, and because he explains well! I wish I had gone to office hours more.

Hates ASU enough to insert questions on exams that insult student body. The last test is by far the most detailed and difficult, don't fall behind. Dont buy the book, you wont need it.

I had him with Hunter and Jandt. He's definitely the hardest out of the three but all of his lecture notes are available online and he makes an effort to try to get you interested. His ASU hatred is awesome. Forget buying the book, I read it but it was pretty useless. As long as you study his notes thoroughly before the test you will do well.
