"Get ready to read" "Participation matters" "Tough Grader"

I was interested in the material we learned and didn't miss a class. This was a tough intro class and professor was a VERY tough grader, and VERY close minded. We had readings and journals for every class and they weren't short. Many times we didn't discuss the readings, but we were tested over what we read.

Don't take this if you want an easy class, you will have to work to get a good grade. You will have a reading assignment, usually half a chapter, for each class. The only slow part is when you are in the inequality unit. She has a lot of statistics in those power points and it can get boring. Overall, the class was pretty good.

SO 3540 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: It's a must have Rater Interest: Sorta interested Grade Received: N/A

The only reason people say it's difficult is because there's a lot to cover. Honestly, stick it out and get to the upper level classes. It gets much more interesting and she is better at teaching the upper levels, in my opinion. Stop whining, it's a college class, what do you expect?

SO3540 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: You need it sometimes Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

Dr. Scritchfield is a very good teacher. The class was mostly watching videos and discussing either the video or the out of class reading. She does expect you to read, but I find that she ends up discussing most of it in class, so it's not 100% necessary. A difficult teacher, but she's not bad.

The class was not well taught. She expects too much and grades too intensively for an introduction class. No feedback on any paper and is unclear about what is going on. I'd advise NOT taking this course at Rockhurst, period.

Scritchfield is one of my favorite professors. She is hard on grading of papers and exams, but her contents are clear. She makes class fun and interesting. She really knows what she is talking about.

Classes are interesting, but grading of exams and papers is really, really tough - not the way introductory courses are usually graded. We were tested over things we never talked about in class.

SO3700 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: It's a must have Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

Material and class discussion are interesting, but her expectations are way too high. Grading is tough and feedback is NONEXISTENT. You won't know your grade until the semester is almost over and there's no time to raise it. Readings are several hundred pages a week and textbooks are poorly written. Would not recommend.

her lecturers are pretty fun as you get to do a lot of activities but she grades harder than some of the english teachers on the essays, the tests aren't that bad if you read the chapters (there is a lot of reading). Was dissapointed that it was treated like a core course

SOC3100 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

I had Dr. Scritchfield for Modern Social Problems. This class involved a lot of reading. The lectures were very interesting but rarely pertained to exam material. Generally, the exams focused solely on material read outside of class which was never discussed in class. The course was fairly difficult and frustrating but extremely interesting.
