Very traditional&academic. He teaches painting&drawing in a realistic ways. He talks&swears roughly in classes, however that just means he is teaching you something. So u don't have to get offended to his actions, but try to earn something from his lessons. He'll definitely be helpful in your artistic life and I convince him as the best master in SAIC.

Dan always nails what I really am lacking and he sees through the ability what I have. His criticism is accurate and useful. I have always listened what I had to listen from Dan.

Dan is a phenomenal teacher. His deep knowledge about observational painting links to his insightful sensibility and extreme passion that inspired me to work borderless and courageous on my own projects. Dan sees the core mechanism in every student's work and provides BEST suggestions working DIRECTLY on improvement of students' artistic vision.

This is an essential class for any painter in school that wants to learn observational painting. Dan pushes his students to make honest works of art, and thought he may "hurt your feelings" it is essential to the learning process, because he wants to push you, which is why some students, like myself, take his class more than once.

He is the best teacher ever!He cares about his students, in a different way though. He's always honest, he pushes you and never pretend to nice and say your works are "interesting". He always points out the most crucial problems in your work and it hurts. But as an artist you have to be honest with yourself even when it hurts to face the truth.

He definitely sees something beyond "what you see,"and it hugely affects on my perspective viewing a work/developing of my own. Sometimes he sounds harsh on students but it makes the point clearer.

This professor knows what he is talking about. Although he is not a master in drawing, he knows the skills and techniques to turn his students into masters. Learn alot from him, accommodating to the needs of students. alot of feedback and really down to earth.
