"Lectures are long" "Skip class? You won't pass." "Respected by students"

Oh, Dr. Whittemore.... He may seem a bit intimidating at first, but he is such a nice person. He loves a good conversation that actually has subsistence. You can tell he enjoys what he does. I had to work for my A, but that's the same for any class! I would say that I had a wonderful learning experience. He definitely knows how to teach! Take him!

He said he would send a study guide before a week before the test. I waited and waited, it never came. The day of the test students told him he never sent a study guide, he lied and said he emailed it the night before, no one received an email. He is know to send study guides the night before the test.

"Get ready to read" "Lectures are long" "Tests are tough"

Whittemore's a very nice person, but his expectations can be a bit unrealistic for an introductory History Course. Without his study guides for the test, there would be very little chance of receiving a passing grade. If you choose to take him be prepared to put your other classes aside.

This class will tank your GPA. It is close to impossible to get an A. Test's are broad and the "study guides" are useless, and don't expect for what he says in class to be what the tests cover. Also, hope you don't like reading, because the book for this class will ruin that for you. If you get him, drop him, and if you're stuck, good luck.

This class was horrible. He is very tough and "study guides" are useless. He is all about critical thinking and participation. I wouldn't recommend him at all.

Whittemore gave 3 tests and pop quizzes. I read literally every chapter we were supposed to and barely passed his "pop" quizzes. He gives study guides that are possible essay prompts, however this is difficult because there are like 8 prompts and only 3 options on the test. I never was clear what he wanted on my papers. Worked my butt off.

Interesting lectures but the tests are not over the lectures material. There is extra credit opportunity but the tests are hard. He is willing to help but expects a lot from students. Be ready to read and for pop quizzes every week. Good luck.

The only advice I can give you with this teacher is to get out while you still can. I took him and barely got a B, where a few of my friends are having to retake the course.

Very hard and not clear on the material he wants you to know. He stands in front of the class and rambles the whole class. It's a mixture of the info you need to know and stories. The test are essay style. He is a very harsh grader. Very nice man but bad professor.

My favorite professor. If you don't want a challenge as a student and just want to take an easy path in college don't take the class. His class is challenging. He is very engaging, knows the information very well, and teaches with great enthusiasm. I'm a better student because of his class.

Even though I do not particularly like history, Dr. Whittemore made the subject interesting. His tests are essays over concepts rather than multiple choice questions over facts, so you have to study for this class, not just memorize dates and such. I enjoyed the class, but most people in my class hated him, so it all depends on your own preference.

aweful class. hard to pass. he is a straight lecturer and essay questions for test type of person. he gives points on talking in class but you no one says anything which hurts your grade and he says this often. he grades essay test off of other students. so if someone is doing great in the class then your score will be less.

Avoid if you want passing grade. Tests and quiz questions are not taught in class. It is like going to church on Sunday but everyday with this class.

Lets put it this way, this is a publicly funded college and as such is subject to the separation of church and state. Not for this guy though, which is odd because i thought it was a History class, not a Sunday sermon. Compares everyone to god, therefore you wont get an A, ever, because your not God.

Incredibly Smart. He really knows what he's talking about. It's really important to take good notes and know them. His only tests are all essays, no multiple choice. Part of your grade is coming to class, not being tardy, and participating and asking questions. He loves a good question. Act like you want to be there and he'll grade you easy.

I took Appalachian History the first time he ever taught it at North Georgia (as far as I know). He is very knowledgeable and passionate on the subject, and I found my thirst for knowledge of Appalachian History insatiable. The workload is what you would expect from upper level history, with essay tests and presentations. Great class!

I took his class back in the spring. He provided a challenging course. I barely made it out with an A. He expects you to really know the material, not regurgitate it back out like in a multiple choice or short answer test. There were a few quizzes, but the course was mainly graded on the 2 essay exams and a paper.

Dr. Whittemore was very clear with what he wanted us to do, and he was fair with his grading. The reason the other people on here are griping is because the are unorganized, irresponsible freshman. This is college, kids, not the arcade. Either get used to Professors expecting you to work, or quit wasting your parents money, and drop out.
