hort 161 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: Mandatory Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Low Grade Received: A-

Great class. Even though it was really tough you will learn a lot. It helps so much when you get into the higher level classes.

HORT 347 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: Mandatory Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Low Grade Received: N/A

First: Brian is extremely intelligent, smart, and credible. Second: There is entirely TOO much material covered in this class and too much is expected of the students. I would recommend substituting this class if you have absolutely no interest in fruits. The content needs to be trimmed down. It would be nice to have weekly quizzes to stay on track

Hort 161 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: Not Mandatory Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: A

Decently hard class. You'll most likely feel like your drowning in it but he curves exams and the overall class grade, explains things well, and provides extra credit. Take good notes and listen well. Also, do well in lab. That will help you a lot.

He is a fricken hard teacher. He rushes through the work and then gives you tests that had nothing to do with what was in lecture...

He knows exactly what he is taking about. Tests and quizzes are very hard. Show up everyday and take detailed notes. recording lectures helps.

Very interesting class. He knows his stuff, and does do a good job of teaching it, if you pay attention. Record all classes and re-write your notes against the recording to get everything. Quizes were very hard, the final was 40-50% questions already asked on the previous tests.

Hort161 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Sorta interested Grade Received: N/A

He is a hard teacher and his tests and quizzes are mostly short answer and fill in the blank. Anything he says can be on a test and he goes off on tangents a lot. However he curves all his tests and gives out a 20pt extra credit paper. If you take notes, study your notes you should be able to do ok. if you dont know the answer guess strawberry

Hort 161 was a lot harder than I expected to be. He is helpful if you ask, and loves to talk plants. The only way I got through the class is by studying hard all the time. He has help sessions and study guides worth extra credit, which helps.

Dr. Smith is a ridiculously hard teacher. His idea of teaching is rushing through material so he can talk about subjects he likes. He purposely makes it difficult for students to succeed just because he can. ANYTHING he mentions in class can be on the test even if its an obscure off topic story. Take notes on EVERYTHING typing notes can be helpful.

yes this teacher is hard, if you do not want to learn do not take him for hort161. his tests are usually from your head (fill in the blank/ short answer) but if you are a hort major and like plants you will learn alot, TBH one of the harder classes ive taken but also one that I learned a lot in, also curves tests!

Very tough teacher. If you have no interest in plants or becoming a horticulture major, your done for. He moves fast through the topics and has a rather odd obsession with strawberries. If you can, try to take someone else if you're not going to persue a horticulture career.

HORT161 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Meh Grade Received: N/A

Show up to class EVERY day, because he doesn't teach from the textbook. Also he teaches some concepts his own way. Some things were completely different from the labs. He is incredibly arrogant and thinks plants are far superior than anything else. I would suggest not taking him or this class if you can help.

Even if you are in class every single day and take very good notes to study from. You probably would fail any test or quiz. He expects you to go above and beyond anything he goes over in class. He doesn't give clear definitions what so ever and never gives you any clue to what will be on an exam. So You study everything.

He goes very fast in his lecture and if you space out for a minute it will be hard to get back on track, but he loves it when people ask questions in and out of class. At the beginning of every class he writes an outline of what he wants to cover and it's really helpful for studying. He doesn't test on anything he hasn't at least mentioned in class

He's very smart but very cocky and difficult. Wouldn't take him if possible. The tests, quizzes and lectures are all terrible and difficult. He just loves strawberries and fruit science, and not Horticulture/Landscape.

I really didn't like this guy. He's obsessed with fruit breeding. Seriously, it's all he talks about. His tests are very difficult and he only tests on his lectures. It's impossible to skip class and know what is going on.

His tests are sooo hard. You honestly need to review notes every day just to manage a passing grade
