"Lectures are long" "Big time extra credit" "Skip class? You won't pass."

His lectures are boring. He does ramble. But he has office hours and he is more than willing to help you. There's tons of extra credit assignments. I did terrible on almost every test and still got a B because of the extra credit. Grading is based on a point system. You have the same chance of a good grade with him as you do with other bio teachers

His class was really easy in terms of getting an A as long as you did the homework and you get a few extra credit quizzes where you just put your name to get points

Took his lecture because he was the only one with empty sections. Worst. Decision. Ever. He is verbally incoherent, posts notes with typos, makes tests that are almost unpassable even with a major curve. The last test we took the average was 60/110 AFTER a 10 point curve. He provides extra credit his preceptor doesn't grade.

What most people say about him is true. He is disrespectful to undergrad students and is not verbally coherent. I wish he would get to the point in his lectures instead rambling on about himself and off topic tangents. I would avoid him.

Awful, shouldn't be teaching. From day one you could tell he just didn't care and expected nothing of value because it's an undergrad class. Might be a nice guy on his own time, but he's a horrible teacher - this class is in my major and the subject is of interest to me and I still doze off in his lectures. I regret taking his honors section.

Very tedious class. Not related to the lecture section at all, and the concepts he presents are not fair for a freshman level bio class. However, he grades lightly and and will push due dates back a lot. Happy to have earned the 5 honors credits, but probably (95%) wouldn't take it again. Huge 45 minute presentation and 10-25 page paper...rough

Extremely hard to understand, can't answer questions well. I am a straight-A student and barely pulled off a B in this class. If he is teaching again, do your best to avoid this class.

Once you figure him out, he is still hard but his questions are predictable. It's far from easy as they are very open ended questions with very specific answers. His attitude is less than positive and he goes off on irrelevant rants and expects you to remember them. All in all, not the worst but still not the best. Survivable to say the least.

Worst professor I have had at the UA. He blames the class for the fact that he can't teach. He is obnoxious, self righteous, and useless. He lectures with his eyes closed and stutters really badly. Take linear algebra before you take this class, even though it's not actually required. He expects you to know it. Avoid this class at all cost.

Dr. Schaffer is a great teacher when it comes to small class settings. Our class had a total of 8 students, all A-type personalities. Discussion was usually dominated by philosophical topics relating to the history of evolution. Lectures are mandatory, but tests are take-home essays and rather easy if you take the time to do them. I recommend it.

ECOL302 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Meh Grade Received: N/A

This class is extremely challenging. To succeed in his course, do all of the practice questions and make sure you get them right and understand them fully. Do every reading that is assigned, seeing as that's where his material stems from. If you don't understand something, go to his review sessions or to office hours; just ignore his attitude.

He simply cannot teach. Lectures are impossible to follow, he goes off on tangents, makes the subject much harder than it needs to be, and is extremely condescending toward his students. On our first test, everyone did so bad that the curve brought my D up to an A+. If you take him, teach yourself. Do the practice problems and additional readings.

If you're looking for honors credits, look somewhere else. The man is a self-righteous bag of wind who seems to make it his goal in life to prove that he is the only person in the room who has half a brain. I would suggest that you escape while you still can.

Do NOT take this class unless you are prepared to write a 10-25 page essay SINGLE SPACED, along with a major presentation, and countless other work. Its not worth 2 honors credits (in my opinion). He is very hard to listen to and closes his eyes while he is lecturing. When people asked questions he gave sarcastic responses & did not always answer

He made biology way harder than it needed to be. Attendance is not mandatory, and honestly it doesn't help all that much. He goes off on random tangents all the time. Lectures are all online. Tests are not the same as previous years. STUDY STUDY STUDY to pass the class.

He is the worst professor I have ever had. His lectures consist of him rambling on with his eyes closed. The honors section consists of a 30 minute project and huge term paper. If you don't have a lot of extra time to devote to the class, don't sign up for the honors section! I have heard his regular lecture section is horrible.

He is a terrible professor. He doesn't get in depth in his lecture while the tests are very detailed, confusing, and hard. He is terrible at explaining the material and even gets confused from his own work. There have been times where he would mess up and explain it by saying we could do a better job at explaining than he can. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS

He teaches the honors discussions, and seems very funny, but boring. He goes off on tangents, and I am very confused all the time because his discussions do not make very much sense. I wonder what his lecture is like?
