We are privileged to have Dr. Best at out university as far as I am concerned. His lectures are very interesting and definitely will make you re-evaluate your role in society.

EZ TEACHER!!!!! NO HOMEWORK, NO QUIZZES, NO TEST!! only 2 finals r given. one for mid term and at the end of semester. both r essay. just do some light reading and put up a decent argument and defense and u will pass. attendance is never taken, however he does remember who attends regularly and gives xtra credit at end of semester!

Very great professor! He doesn't care about attendance. Uses the book to write an essay. Not hard at all and does have a very interesting point of view, but it opens your mind to actualy thinking. Gives your life a different perspective. Take a class from him before he retires!

Great class & professor if looking for a easy B. Doesnt check for attendence & all he requires is a semester paper.Textbook required but it was easy reading- will need to use for final paper. Great class for summer! Take advantage of it then!

Initially disliked the course. Started to enjoy it once I opened up to it. Hardest part is the two long essays, but they are easy as long as you can back up your argument. He definitely has an interesting point of view.

Didn't agree with Best on most subjects but regardless he is a great teacher. I vocally opposed him and he applauded for it. He's not very hard at all but he will challenge you to think. I truly don't understand why people say he doesn't let you think your own thing he just challenges what you think so that you can become more solid in your argume

He is very passionate about what he believes in and if you go in with an open mind you can learn a new perspective. He is not your typical teacher, but I think that is a good quality.

Interesting class. Steve Best trys too keep you interested and attempts to challenge your ways of thinking. He assigns 4 essays each semester, 2 of them are easy and the other 2 (Midterm and Final) are more difficult. Work hard and Easy A or B.

The guy doesn't have TA's anymore. He bites off more than he can chew and he doesn't have a lot of time to help students. He is a nut, simply put...a strict Vegan who wishes to see the end of the human race. If you don't agree with his views, he gives you a very difficult time. Very easy-going about assignments, etc. as long as you ASK!

So glad I actually took a class with the infamous Dr. Best. He is a great professor, very fair and down to the point. Not like other narcissistic professors at UTEP who believe their class is the only one we are taking. He opens your eyes to a lot, so go in with an open mind.

If you're going to take philosophy, take Steven best. He really makes students rethink their most basic assumptions. If you do take his class, definitely watch a movie like "Earthlings" first, which you can get on Google Video. You'll be MUCH more prepared for what he's talking about than the other students. Enjoy!

Umm, well he's pretty strict but if you get a good TA like I had (RICK) than he's pretty helpful. Class isn't too hard as long as you do your Volunteer Hours.

Will make your dogmatic views dissapear! Simply the BEST, down to earth, humorous, yet challenging. Not like the other @** holes in the philosophy dpt. Best doesn't belong at UTEP, he's a great mind...and needs to be @ Princeton or something!
