He is a terrible professor. Expects everyone that is in the class to be majoring in it when it is a gen ed for most. He talks down to everyone and harasses people with what he says. Do not take him if possible, such a terrible semester with him. He is twisted and grades so poorly..

Nice, funny guy, very passionate about what he teaches which is nice, but I have NO IDEA how he grades things. As someone who has gotten A's on every college paper so far, I found myself struggling to get anything more than a 75% on any paper. The highest grade I got on any large assignment was an 80%. This class SOLELY ruined my GPA.

Marcelo is the best! He is cool, funny, and interesting. I loved his lectures and his exams were not hard in less you didn't study, but you need to study and read the book. Funny as hell, quizzes are a breeze.

He is a RIOT. If you are easily offended by American jokes then don't take his class. I think they are hilarious. He's REALLY smart though, too.

Prof. Cruz is highly intelligent and has innovative ideas. If you do the readings and go to class you will learn a lot from him. His downfall is that he thinks his teaching style is the best way to empower students to learn. It is actually limiting for students because being ridiculed over and over again causes self-doubt and is not motivating.

Cruz is old school. He is not one of the professors who give you your degree on a plate. Be prepared to think with reality, not just theoretically. He will push you to achieve beyond what you think you can but you will be better for it. He does not hate Americans, he just doesn't fawn over them. Respect is earned, not a given. Push yourself.

Pretty Hard class. I was very interested in it at first, but as the first weeks progressed, I started not really enjoying the class. Kind of boring. A lot of information to retain. Tests are pretty hard. He can be funny, but he can also be pretty insulting.

He's rude and unprofessional. He thinks insults count as motivation and that students are stupid because they are too shy or afraid to answer him. He constantly bashes the UW system as a corrupt institution bent on giving students useless diplomas due to grade inflation, easy coursework, etc., and he hates Americans. I was not impressed.

Good teacher! Hilariously easy on quizzes - literally gives you the answers. Tests are difficult though so be sure to study a lot, and take good notes. Offers extra credit so take advantage of it. He is really fun and a pretty interesting teacher.

Prof Cruz is amazing! I loved this class because he has tons of passion for what he was teaching. He sometimes speaks quietly so make sure you sit in the front. He will also randomly burst out in Spanish/French so that kind of keeps things a little interesting. He also expects you to know a lot about the region your studying so be prepared to read!

Cruz is one of either two things for you: you either love him, or completely dislike him. I was intimated by his unorthodox way of motivation...but found that's why I adore his teaching approach. After traveling with him to Ecuador I learned much to my surprise he is wise, funny, and harmless if you take his humor with a grain of salt.

Marcelo was very rude to all. He finds his favorites to pick on, and I was one of them. Even after participating in class daily and going to meet with him, I got a D. Exams are hard & confusing. I did the whole study guide he gave and failed the final. Urban Studies 100 is very hard.

Marcello knows his stuff. However, he does not like Americans. He is an excellent teacher if you are not easily offended.

He's funny, but very rude toward students. Don't sit in the front row or he'll pick on you all through class. He doesn't seem to like Americans much.. You have to read the book and pay attention is class or you will do poorly.

Hardest professor I've had. Hard grader!! Be ready to read the book and pay attention in class! He will ask you to answer questions even if you don't raise your hand so pay attention!

Unless you enjoy being called a bloody american & constantly picked on not the class for you. Prof Cruz is obviously angry that he has ended up at the university of wisconsin becasue he will constantly tell you how he taught at UCLA. He can't seem to understand that no one likes to be stereotyped and singled out Dont take urban 100 he grades hard!!

Different than any other profesor thats forsure! He is very knowledgeable, likes to be intimidating and sometimes feels like he's yelling at us for being AMericans more than anything. yet he is funny, unless you are his victim to pick on. Just dont sit in the first row, you are bound to get it! Its worth it...but be prepared! lol.
