Pollard is seriously the best professor I've ever had and I can attribute my switch to a biochem major because of his class. He made the content of the course funny and interesting; he only had to explain things once for me to understand it. I would highly recommend taking his chemical thinking classes both semesters--it helps a lot for ochem too!

Dr. Pollard is a great guy and good teacher, but the class itself is flawed through it structure. This requires alot of effort and time spent at office hours and grouping together with others to study whic isnt bad but the only problem is everyone in this class is usually stuck up, the lecture is clear but readings are unorganized and unclear.

So organized and clear. Tests are incredibly hard, this class took up 20-30 hours of my week. I am in 152 with a different teacher, and Im amazed at how much further Pollards students are in the curriculum... Find a good preceptor! Read everything he gives you. Watch his youtube vidz. Most entertaining lectures. So clear and organized.

I think taking Chemical Thinking was the best decision I've made in college. It's completely unlike the other Gen Chem's, in that it is more difficult, but the material is presented clearly and comprehensively. He is both brilliant and a fantastic teacher. Pollard is one of those legendary teachers that UA is lucky to have. If you like to learn and be inspired, then he is a passionate prof who values each of his students and his or her deep understanding of the material. The way Pollard teaches makes no sense. I would attentively sit in class, take notes and never learned anything from him. It's when I went to the TA's or think tank that I learned. He said he'd curve the final grade but never did. The amount of work I put into the class was never rewarded with the grades he gave me. Don't take him.

KNOW this course is NOT A REGULAR CHEM 151 CLASS, it is a “CHEMICAL THINKING" class. Test averages weren't above a D. Only a handful of students get A's in the class. Pollard is a great professor and a really nice person, but his class is more difficult than it should be. If you don't plan on taking O-Chem later, I wouldn't recommend this course.

Dr. Pollard has a very unsuitable way of presenting his material as if he is talking to an audience of graduate students. His answers to your questions are always ambiguous and sometimes incorrect, and his office hours are a mess. He isn't teaching this course again, and any intellectual can probably guess why. Stick to GenChem, Pollard.

Dr. Pollard gave the most amazing lecture on the application of the variational theorem to excited states in systems which require a rigorous quantum mechanical description of their Hamiltonian's....and somehow, it all summarized with a comment on how to name alkenes. You must take his class. You will never look at the relationship between string theory and the addition of HBr and an alkene ever the same.

I think pollard is an excellent lecturer. his exams are hard and if you don't study, you will not do well. I think he was excellent for gen chem and for ochem...just be prepared to study. I didn't find him intimidating at all. he is really helpful during office hours.

Pollard rules but you need to make sure that you do alot of studying on your own. His tests are not that hard but you really need to know your stuff and how to apply it in more than one way. Yes he does tend to belittle people that ask stupid questions but I do not think it is intentional, he just does not have time to be answering confused person

Dr. Pollard is a great professor. However, ochem is already very difficult material and I feel his lectures are beoming more and more disorganized as the semester goes on. He does make mistakes and can be unclear at times. His exams are very difficult. He is also intimidating - I can never go to his office hours or raise my hand in class.

If I had taken him for chemistry maybe I would have done better. He jumps around a lot and is not very helpful. He teaches it like a grad class. I can appreciate the high pedestal he puts us on that we should automatically know things, but it's the first time a lot of people have seen this material. Bottom line I'm GROing and don't recommend him.

Dr. Pollard if you reading this please take note.. You need to offer more relavant examples for study purposes. We cant take on example of one kind of problem and be expected to understand the whole concept. So if you arent going to teach from the book please offer a study question bank that will prepare us. So far one example isnt good enough.
