Physics 202 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Barely cracked it open Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

He gets distracted easily but he tells you exactly what will be on exams. With a little effort an A is easy to achieve.

PHYS101 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: It's a must have Rater Interest: Sorta interested Grade Received: N/A

One of the worst professors I've ever had. He doesn't lecture on everything that is in the homework or the exam. He goes off on tangents and it is really hard to follow his lessons. He seems more concerned with making funny sketches instead of being clear in the problem.

Pretty difficult class, even if you've taken high school physics. Gittes is an awesome guy, super nice, helpful, and enthusiastic, but also pretty erratic and unorganized, so pay attention and ask questions if something is unclear. Lecture is basically an accompaniment to the textbook, so if you don't read it, it's going to be a tough year.

Phys101 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Meh Grade Received: N/A

He is very unorganized and frantic during lectures. Often gets lost with what he is saying and confuses students. Class is a waste of time unless you can coax him into giving away some of the exam questions. He only reduces the homework IF YOU ASK HIM TO, otherwise it takes hours to complete. Understand mastering physics and you will do well.

PHYS101 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Low Grade Received: N/A

This class was pretty easy and he teaches straight from the book. Tests were around 10 questions long and adapted straight from the Mastering Physics homework problems. He also cuts down the homework load a lot! Awesome professor!

Gittes was a ton of fun and knows all about the subject. The class is very hard, and expect to stay up late getting the work done. If you don't devote the time and talk to Gittes outside of class, you will not do well.

Phys202 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Low Grade Received: N/A

Was a waste of time going to class relied on the book to be the teacher and then he would 'clarify' if needed. Whats the point in having a teacher if he doesn't teach? Lectures had nothing to do with the test. It's not hard to get a good grade but I left feeling that I had not learned much which. Good luck if you can't find a different teacher.

Gittes is incredibly smart, but is NOT a teacher. He has an extremely difficult time bringing his knowledge down to a student level (He was part of a NASA research panel). He's very enthusiastic about the material, but avoid his class if you can. If you're stuck with him, read the book thoroughly and memorize the "stop to think" sections - Phys202

Fred is a funny guy he should be on T.V.However this does not make up for his lack of tacking. All equations are derived and there is no actual numerical equations demonstrated in class. However the homework requires both numerical and derived.I haven't learned anything by taking this professor if you can take someone else if its at 8:00am.Goodluck

Gittes is a joke. He may be funny and he may be interesting - but he canNOT teach. Scatterbrained, unorganized, unrelated to homeworks, and not helpful at all in learning the material. Don't waste your time, just read your book. Ignore his class. Not worth the time.

Fred looks like what you'd expect from a physics professor: crazy hair, glasses, colorful shirts, etc. Went extremely fast in explaining the material (with pictures!) and follows the textbook extensively. Not enough examples done in class. Exams mostly consist of conceptual questions from the book and derivations, which were sometimes tough.

Some what crazy and difficult to follow in the beginning of class, it does become easier to follow him with time. His classes are incredible entertaining so much so that I was sad when they were cancelled. All in all if you can keep up with him you'll have an extremely strong grasp of physics at the end of this class.

First of all, anyone who is complaining about the average grades being low in Fred's classes is not really complaining about Fred but about physics classes in general so ignore these type of comments. Everyone should teach like Fred. He is enthusiastic and intelligent. Learning from Dr. Gittes is always a pleasure.

This guy was pretty strange. Would get excited and make strange noises. Don't even bother wasting time in class, just read your book. The tests are almost impossible. Class averages for tests were Ds and Fs. Expect a huge curve. Did so bad on last test he changed it to extra credit.

Gittes is the epitome of a physics prof-crazy hair, sloppy handwriting, absurd examples, etc. Going to his office hours helped me a lot; he won't just give you the answer, which is frustrating at first but actually incredibly helpful in learning the material. If you do poorly in his class, first make sure that it's not your fault before blaming him

Probably the best prof that I've ever had. His class (466/566) is truely inspired and it's apparent that he loves what he does. He is also very willing to help students one-on-one, if you go to his office hour.

E&M Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: N/A Rater Interest: It's my life Grade Received: N/A

Terrible teacher. Disorganized, disjointed lectures, unreadable handwriting. Doesn't/can't/won't help you actually solve a problem, says you should "see" the answer. Changes the homework assignment day before its due. Changes test times on day of test. He's very enthusiastic but of no help what so ever in learning this complicated topic.
