Con Law
Great professor! It was the first time that I saw the "Socratic Method" actually work. Be prepared to read a lot so that you can speak in class. No matter what your opinion is he will look for the flaws in your argument and expects you to be prepared to defend your statements. It was an amazing class wish it was for a full year.
CON LAW
I came in expecting him not to be good but I was proven wrong. He teaches the material in a clear, balanced way even though he is a huge liberal. He makes sure he presents both sides to issues and allows you to come to your own conclusion. He also gives you the fact patterns for the final before you take it. Really great class.

Avery wrote the book on Evidence. Literally. Its probably sitting on the shelf of the judge you interned for last summer. Is he full of himself? Yes. You have to realize you are in law school, it attracts people with egos. Will you learn the rules of evidence? Absolutely. Take this class if you want to learn something. Great text too, no cases.

Class was dreadfully boring, the exam ends up not using a whole lot of classroom topics, research is key! All in all an easier class then it may seem mid semester.
Evidence
Avery is overrated! He is not as great as all the other comments say he is. His final is 40 multiple choice but is tricky! He is kinda arrogant. I did well in the class but Fenton is the professor to take for evidence
EVID101
He gives a lot of examples/practice questions in class. Learn from them and study intensively. If you do that, you'll get an A.
CON1C
Had him my 1st yr for con law. I HATED going to class bc you WILL get called on but he makes is soooo easy to get an A- if you ACTUALLY work.. Do the optional essays for the extra grade and your research for the exam (he gives u the darn thing!) and you'll do fine!
EvidAE
Expect to get called on. Not a terribly difficult class. Multiple choice exam. No attendance policy which is always a plus
Evid101
Worried about evidence, but loved it. His stories and examples were great. He was patient, but not passive--you are expected to behave like a law student and be prepared. Highly recommend him for this clss.

Besides the arrogance - you'll learn evidence. Doesn't take attendance, but if you go to class, expect to get called on. If you don't like speaking up in class, avoid. His exam for this 4 credit class was only 40 multiple choice questions. Studied my butt off and got a C-. Enjoy. From what I hear, Prof. Fenton is the guy to take for Evidence.

Great Evidence professor - funny, engaging and brilliant. Easily one of my favorite professors at Suffolk. Get the flashcards, the Glannon Guide and do his TWEN practice exams and read his problems carefully. You'll be fine!
Evid09
Avery is a really great professor for Evidence. Very knowlegable and organized and made class entertaining. Class work was fair and so isthe test which is all MC butyou can use the rules book. Highly recommended for evidence.
evid101
Avery was fantastic. Not overly difficult but he sure knows what he is talking about, among the most knowledgeable about evidence. People who thought he was overly hard or harsh are wimps. Sorry, wimps, get used to it. Great class.
LawEvid
If you want to learn evidence take Avery. He can come off as a ****, but in the end, his class made it a lot easier come bar study time.
ConLa1
The amount of reading will overwhelm you. Get the Chemerinsky supplement, it will save you. The class is mostly an open forum for students to talk. It can be very entertaining and informative at times...and very boring at others. He knows the material well and hates Pres Bush. He's political but encourages dissenting views. Overall, a solid prof.
Evid2166
I cannot understand the negative posts. Prof. Avery is outstanding. I looked forward to every Evidence class. If you're struggling to answer, he'll throw you a lifeline, but he has little patience for pompous students who like to hear themselves pontificate. He shreds those who deserve to be shredded, and I love that! He is a superb teacher.
