HIST389
Absolutely outstanding! ADA teaches just a little bit over everyones head, but does so in a way that makes you want to understand all of the details that he is talking about. Amazing lectures. Assingments are light. You just have to be able to write a couple little papers that show you paid attention to the class. WELL WORTH TAKING!

Uh.. Disappointed actually. He is a very smart man. He is likeable. Having said this I must complain that he doesn't listen to students at all. He cuts even the brightest students off mid sentence. I regularly attended class and took very detailed notes, often 4 pages back and front in length, but when it came to the essays they were useless.

Dr. D'Agostino is one of the best Prof's at SFSU. Very passionate and extremely intellectual. Gives all kinds of perspectives in History and really challenges you to think. Head's up, though, he tends to ramble at will sometimes. But largely don't worry about it, it's him explaining some of his experiences in past events. Seriously, take his class.
Hist390
Good Prof. A little too easy on undergrads, a bit harder on grads. Also assigns text not used much in class. And can be rushed as term moves on but having said all that clearly keeps up on the current lit. and debate in his profession and entertains alternative opinions if they are well grounded. Overall: high recomendation only if you are serious
Hist01
Great Prof. Impossible not to learn a lot from this prof. Very strong on entertaining alternate views and opinions. May not agree (probably won't) but treats serious alternate views if they are serious. Downside: a little to light on assignments espcially for undergrads. Needs to be little more demanding. Much harder on grad students.

If you're not learning in Dag's class it means you're not paying attention or doing the reading. He isn't everyone's cup of tea, as he won't hold your hand and you actually have to think in his class. He knows everything about his subject and is open to disagreements. However, you better know what you're talking about, he doesn't suffer fools.
HIST385
Dr. D'Agostino is one of the best History professors at SFSU and really knows his**** about European History. I would recommend him, he's very passionate. Heads up though, he tends to ramble. Other than that, take him. He's great.
hist385
He wasn't the worst professor I've had at state, but he wasn't too far off. He needs to tone his arrogance down a few notches.
hist486
Everything I heard was true. Refuses all other opinions but his own, despite factual references. Arrogant and self centered, with rambling pointless lectures. Avoid at all costs.
HIST386
Open to different ideas, but he WILL challenge you on them. Frustratingly incoherent, nearly impossible to take notes unless you're inhumanly focused. Taught more like a graduate class requiring in-depth knowledge. Easy to pass, but you probably will not have learned much.
HIST385
The class material is easy if you can follow his lectures (which is often tedious) & take notes. The midterm & final are easy. My only issue is that he isn't very open to discussion & singles people out. To be honest, kind of a self-centered jerk a lot of the time. You will learn a lot because he is a fountain of information though.
Hist389
This man makes me want to change my historical emphasis. Uses offensive terms loosly and believes British superior to the entire world. Disorganized lectures and syllabus (no dates next to assignments). More interested in hearing himself talk than actually teaching.
hist386
Don't bother trying to argue with him. If you have a different opinion, you are wrong. This also then carries over to your essays. Facts and references don't matter in arguments either. His way or the highway. Avoid.
Hist386
Horrible teacher. Rambles incoherently and without structure. Grades essays arbitrarily and without many comments. I did well, yet didn't learn anything more than I did coming in, as he is more into his own warped point of view rather than facts.
HIST386
I definitely do NOT recommend this teacher. He spends his lectures jumping from one topic to another but with no real organization to his lectures. This class was more of a discussion with himself about the Cold War. You had to have known a lot about the war on your own. Also, he seemed to brush aside simple questions, he wants complex questions.

Took it for segment 3. Essay for midterm, 2 essays for final. Sure there's a lot of information to digest, but I learned a lot from the class.
HIST390
I'm taking this class as a GE segment 3 requirement, and I find it pretty hard. I'm not a history major, and he assumes we know a lot of stuff I don't know. But the class is interesting and with a bit of reading on my own I've managed. Textbook is useless, never even mentions it. He likes a good argument but he interrupts a lot.

I AGREE WITH COMMENTS THAT HE IS FAIR, WILLING TO LISTEN TO DIFFERENT INTERPRETATIONS AND CONSIDER AN ISSUE FROM DIFFERENT ANGLES.
