Alex improved a lot since the winter term. He has entertaining anecdotes, and is clearly very knowledgeable about what he teaches.

He is really great. I'm sure people didn't pay attention in class, since the assignments are based on what he talks about rather than the slides. Sit in the front row and you'll be fine.

If you have this prof, GIVE UP on learning in his class, and just go to listen to his Jokes. He is moderately funny, and he knows the material well, but can't teach it clearly to save his life.

Horrible prof, he changed assignments problems 1 day before due date, so that half assignment is different!!!

Lectures are very interesting, he definately knows what he is talking about. Assignments are difficult but the exams are pretty straightforward and easy. Overall one of the better profs ive had

Knowledgeable, and likeable, but not a good prof. Assignments were awful, and were constantly under revision up until a few days before the due date. Midterm was mostly multiple choice, worth a lot of marks each on topics which hadn't been covered a lot. Final was very easy though. Avoid if you can

Alex knows his stuff, but his lecture delivery was highly boring and unorganized. Assignments were extremely hard with little connection to lecture content. No solutions were posted. Midterm was okay, although a bit unfairly set up. Final was relatively easy, which made up for lost marks in assignments. I would avoid Alex for CS240 if possible.

He said this to someone after the midterm: "You incorrectly assumed there is a correlation between the time spent on a subject and its weight in the exam. There is not." Not a particularly nice guy, and awful teacher. Avoid at all costs.

He's charismatic. He knows the material very well. He doesn't just teach the material but also teaches about the material (history and motivation behind it). Lectures were excellent, the evaluation was not. The assignments were often vague and half of the exam questions were challenging multiple choice questions, often for several marks each.

Worst professor I've had yet. Seeing as he is rated in the bottom 5% of all professors here, I hope I don't come across more of these. Just awful.

One of the worst profs I had a UW. Terribly unorganized, didn't follow any sort of slides. Showed a lack of interest in teaching students: didn't hold exam reviews (barely mentioned anything about them actually), left during the midterm week. The textbook was unavailable until after A1 and reading week. TAs were clueless. Terrible experience.

Taught programming languages. Absolutely terrible, apathetic to everything. Disorganized, noone ever knows what goes on in the course, took off on a conference for two weeks during the midterm week. Had couple of guest profs, equally bad, biggest regret of my life, TAs are also clueless.

His style is lively and passionate, though his accent is rather thick. I always looked forward to his lectures, because unlike other profs who robotically march through the lecture notes, he likes to tell stories from his own practical experience with the topic.

Funny guy, great lectures/anecdotes, interesting to listen to (and look at, I loved his beard). Terribly organized though (somewhat the fault of miscommunication throughout the course co-ordinators though, I suppose). I was going to rate him poorly, but he's just so dang likeable!

Words cannot begin to describe how utterly useless this professor is. Disorganized, incomprehensible (either writes ridiculously small on the board or simply mumbles what he wants to say to the front row in a class of 200+ students). Gives very little guidance for completing insane assignments and takes constructive criticism as personal insults.

I went to the first couple of classes and realized that they were beyond useless. I can't understand a word he says, and anything he writes on the board is already written somewhere in wikipedia. The only difference is that wikipedia is actually useful for doing assignments or studying exams. If you have him, you're on your own.

Worst professor in UW. I cannot believe someone paid him to do this job. Doesn't care about the students at all. If you wanna fail a course then go to his lectures.

One of the worst classes in my years at waterloo. Prof was obviously very knowledgeable, and anecdotes were good, but quality of teaching was very poor. rushed through things, unclear examples, no direction, didn't really follow the notes, and the textbook was USELESS. very little review offered for exams, and the assignments were hard as hell.
