CTSJ 180 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: Not Mandatory Textbook Use: You need it sometimes Rater Interest: Sorta interested Grade Received: A+

Prof Griffin is clearly brilliant. That being said, I think that he has some difficulty explaining some of the more difficult concepts to students. Work is doable, the tests/quizzes are with partners and are easy. I personally wasn't a huge fan of the class but it's easy to do well and you learn a lot. Overall, good class and good prof. Take it.

Stupidity is an amazing class if you let yourself see things from a new perspective. Griffin is a great professor - makes you think, gets you out of your comfort zone to talk about things you'd never imagine, and doesn't mind laughing. Fun class, do-able work, and you'll be surprised what it does for you even when you leave the classroom.

He's more honest and open about all issues, particularly sexuality and race, than almost anyone at Oxy. He knows he's intimidating, and he knows he can mess with your head, and that's what education is all about: seeing the world in a different way.

Do yourselves a favor, kids. and take a class with this man before you graduate. The material is challenging, absolutely. But if you really engage in it and go talk to him, you will not get lost. Midterms and finals are done in pairs. They are take-home. Don't let his vocabulary scare you. If you ask him to clarify something, he will!

Griffin tries to be intellectual which is hilarious given he graduated from Pacific Union, a bottom of the barrel university. Has psychological issues which he ironically tries to help others with...Don't get me started on his dislike for caucasians....other then that a great teacher

CTSJ186 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: You need it sometimes Rater Interest: Meh Grade Received: N/A

Provides a provocative look at critical theory but is so intent on overwhelming students with the shocking gratuity and inconsistencies of Western epistemology as to render critical theory perfect and everything else the other evil extreme. Thus slightly hypocritical. Keep a good head on your shoulders, nod your head and you'll do fine in this class.

Stupidity was the best class I've taken so far at Oxy. It was the first class I've taken in a long time that not only challenged me but also inspired me. Griffin seems tough but if you really surrender to the material and start thinking critically it's not too difficult to get a good grade. Absolutely take his classes.

This is an amazing class! Professor Griffin seems intimidating at first, but the class proved to be interesting and even humorous at times. The material can seem dense and complex, but then again so is the topic of stupidity itself.

Lots of INTERESTING and FUN reading, a few short "quizzes" (more like response papers to the reading). Best class I've ever taken. Griffin is a G.

Prof. Griffin is a tough teacher! He seems really intimidating at first, but once you've been in his class for a while you realize he's not. His classes are challenging but really interesting! They're all discussion-based. The reading is necessary. His classes are definitely worth taking because they will make you think in a whole new way!

This class will challenge you and your commonsense. The content is difficult but adds depth and understanding to stupidity's function in society. Accusations of racial bias are unfounded. Racial identity is critically analyzed, so it is not for the sensitive. The professor is fantastic and willing to help. This is a fascinating and insight class.

Requires a "high ambiguity tolerance". The readings can be unpleasant and Griffin can be difficult, but a truly worthwhile class. He uses different forms of media that are engaging. Expect difficult, abstract readings that will piss you off. If you don't read, listen to what he says in class. That, and discussions, will make some sense of it.

Great teacher, as long as you don't accept everything he says as a fact he is a great teacher. I throughly loved his class, really taught me to just be critical and challenge the notions that I have of the world around me.

Took his history of psych class. Has charisma to burn, but not nearly as intellectually deep as he thinks he is. Tests were demanding & based on the book, which was however only lightly discussed in class. I like him quite a bit, but his pomo "radicalism" is about as authentic as Kobe's commitment to unselfish play.

He stands out as one of my profs who actually managed to get through to me in some meaningful ways. He cares more about shaping you as a person than anything else. For that reason, however, he also does not usually get through much content in his courses. Still, if you have the chance to take a griffin course, don't pass it up!

Very laid-back style. Comes to class late, which helps take the pressure off. It's kind of deceiving though, because the material is always intense, and the papers are difficult. If you want an easy teacher who won't challenge your views, don't take his classes. With Griffin, you'll learn a lot. Even if you're a Republican or a Libertarian.

He is a smart guy but a lot of what he says is rather biased. Also, his grading system is odd-basically you get put into a certain grade category at the beginning of the semester and no matter what you do you cant do better than what he has you pegged as. Its really frustrating. Also his expectations are unclear, its hard to know what he wants.
