Dr. Hirzy is painfully boring and it does not help that he teaches a class that no one wants to take. Having said that, his exams are super easy and the lab component of the course is similarly a breeze. An annoying class, but an easy B+ or higher if you keep up with the work.

Prof. Hirzy is extremely kind and intelligent. The study questions are the same or very similar to the exams. Sometimes explains material that is far more complicated that the exams so do not worry. Office hours are really useful

Prof Hirzy is a very intelligent, very kind man, but he has forgotten how to teach. He goes off onto tangents and is not very clear as to the actual material. I have skipped every class except tests, taught myself from the book and homework, and aced the class. He does have very interesting life experiences though (Monsanto, EPA) and loves to share

His class lecture is boring and rushed at the same time. He knows his stuff very well but he usually rants about environmental issues. His tests are straight-up copies of his review sheets but in-class explanations are sometimes vague and other times nonexistent. Quite dull to be honest.

real helpful, a good dude, helps his students achieve stuff in chem. let me strait into 210 without going to 110 because he knew i could cut, test at least in 100 are easy, best chem teacher/professor I've had. can be a bit brusque in class but go to the office hours, he will be helpful

Ddon't go to class and just read the textbook to get the concepts, and go to the SI session to fully understand them. Hirzy isn't that helpful in office hours cause he tends to be trapped in his own world while working on problems instead of making sure you understand. The smartworks is hard, but a group can help. Also the final is optional!

Tips for an easy A: Thoroughly read the textbook, do the sample exam qs and get help from him during office hours. Prof. Hirzy is very knowledgeable and he is always willing to help his students. He may be a little boring in class, but extremely helpful in office hours.

Hirzy was an okay professor. His hand outs before exams were EXTREMELY helpful because they're basically the same problems that will be on the test. A little boring, but it's very easy to miss class. Just make sure to keep up with the readings in the textbook if you want an A.

Hirzy is a sweet guy, who knows a lot and really wants to help. My section had some problems, but I think it had to do with the fact that he had a tragic family death halfway thru the semester. Sit near the front, cuz he talks kinda quietly. The quizzes are straight out of the book, and the exams are just like the practice exams he gives you.

The key to doing well in this class is to do the practice problems (which will prepare you for the quiz on each chapter) and to do the practic exams (which are very similar to the actual exams). Dr. Hirzy is incredibly helpful outside of class though I've heard he can be a bit impatient, I think he appreciates persistence.

Extremely nice and genuine fellow and as stated previously, he is fighting the good fight. He wants the best for his students and he is definitely not out to get you - he wants everyone to do well. He is very fair. If you do all the work he assigns, you'll be in good shape!

1. READ everything in the text CAREFULLY. 2. ask for help during his office hours. If you follow these steps, it is an easy A. I didn't follow these rules since the beginning, so ended up with a B.

Professor Hirzy is a great professor! He may be a little hard to understand during class, but he is incredibly helpful during office hours. He posts sample tests online that are exactly the same as the tests that he gives you...so study off of those. Reading the book is also a huge help.

Dr. Hirzy's lectures may sometimes seem redundant and boring, but if you actually read the textbook and then ask questions in class, he is very helpful. He is also very approachable and helpful during office hours. As long as you ask questions, this class is good and the tests are on the easier of the topics covered during class.

Hirzy is a genuine good guy, fighting the good fight for science. Probably was a legendary teacher when he was about 15 years younger, but age has worn on him (hes about 70) and so he is merely good. Has great stories. Chem 100 is easy to A, Chem 200 less so. Any class above 200 level of his has some great interaction and info.

I would just like that yes, the lectures don't have all that much to do with what might be on the test, and you can do well by just doing well on the tests - BUT if you actually care about learning chemistry-ie-for the MCATs, he will take the time to help you and you can make the class challenging. he's nicer and more helpful than he seems
