HIST 2720
Wonderful professor. Has a lot of insight on what he's teaching, not the boring follow along with textbook lectures. As long as you show up for class and take good notes, you will have no problem with the course. Up front from the beginning what he expects in essays/tests.
HIST1350
Amazing prof, he's really clear and extremely knowledgable. He pulls facts clear out of his head, and has an answer for everything. Also, his lectures are very smooth but be prepared to write a ton of notes. You'll need them.
Hist3580
Very insightful, great exam guides (questions on exam given during first class!), office hours were adequate and our conversation was great. Be in class however, you MUST be there because you will be taking notes every second-and that's fine. That's what university is, or at least one of the things that I knew when I signed up.
HIST2720
probably my favorite course I took at the u of m. excellent marxist class-based analysis of the world since 1945. changed my opinions on the modernization of china. free market my eye! perhaps a bit on the "crotchety" side, but outstanding stuff nonetheless.
HIST1370
He is an excellent proff! His lectures are brilliant and all that he teaches in class has a valuable meaning for life! I love history with Henry Heller :)
HIST3580
Not the best "people skills" in the world, but absolutely brilliant lectures and not a hard marker for a 3000-level course. Kept my interest the whole time- take his Vietnam course before he retires!
HIST3580
Hard to understand, often droned on and sometimes repeated the wrong or a different date. Didn't talk at all about the 5 books we had to buy, just required we write an essay on them as well as a television series he never finished showing us. No in-class discussion, not very approachable. Wouldn't take another class with him.
HIST2720
History Since 1945. Very interesting course. He knows his stuff--he wrote the textbook we used. Went over the possible exam questions with us. Will let you revise your term essays after he marks them, and he will look over them if you have a rough draft ready early enough.
Hist1350
If you plan on not reading the textbook and just using your notes, don't skip class, don't zone out. Very good speaker, sometimes easy to get lost when he jumps from one time period to another and you don't have a background understanding of the subject. Leaves lots of comments on papers, chances to resubmit, etc, very fair. tough ish marker though
HIST358
Bright prof but clearly in his own world at times. Little absent minded and it would be nice if he would tuck his shirt in but overall, I would take another course with him. tough, but fair marker

Terrific teacher. Can be a bit dry at times, but is a fair marker for those who comprehend the material. Quirky sense of humor, and he looks like a happy snowman. One of the most intelligent men I have had the pleasure of meeting! Thanks Henry!

Definitely the most intelligent prof I ever had and has good lectures. However, that is meaningless when the prof is miserable almost every day. Doesn't respond to e-mail and left exam before everyone was done ~ I experienced this! Easy marker on essays, tougher for tests. Recommended for lectures, not recommended for personality. Grumpy old man!

History
Thought he was an alright Prof untill he lost my final exam and it took me almost 2 months to finally get it sorted out. Apparently things like that dont happen in the history dpt. so he didnt know how to deal with it.
