Nice, helpful teacher, but it's a shame that Stonybrook/Collins test questions have to rely on semantics and tricky wording to make the tests more challenging. Wouldnt suggest taking in summer if not committed. Very informative course, but again, be careful when reading questions. This course requires FULL understanding of every topic discussed.

I got an A in 203. I think the mistake people make with Collins is treating him like he's the easier then Cabot. Cabot does not have to rely on little tricks to make you get questions wrong because of how much info he gives you. Collins is trickier so even if he explains it thoroughly do not slack with his lectures because exams ?s can fool you

Much easier than cabot, but you do have to go to class because he uses clickers. Very clear slides for not taking. Goes slower and explains better. Very nice man overall.

Only teaches half the course during the regular semester, but nonetheless the better professor. Lecture slides are much more organized.

The "easier" of the 203 professors, Collins stuff will still challenge you based on sheer amount of material. Same test format, but generally his material is a little less intense and that is why he gains the better reputation. He is a pretty clear lecturer and if you study the videos, while 203s still hard, you'll do alright. got an A, worked hard

His slides are clearer but his question although may look simple, they're actually very tricky. Nvr used the book. Like others just the echoes and the cd

In class you feel like you understand everything. Even when you study you will feel like you understand everything, but when you take a test it's like you don't understand anything. The way he tests it's not like he's testing for biology, he tests your ability to pick out very small details. No textbook, just echo and IP

Slides make more sense than Cabot's. His test questions are very tricky as they look right, but one word makes it wrong whereas Cabot's are usually more reasonable. Boring lectures compared to Cabot.

HARDEST CLASS AT STONY BROOK... DONT RUIN YOUR GPA. If you focus on old exams, you can beat the class average (45%) just by learning the questions... so its a class about test taking, not Biology. however, Collins is better than Cabot because he is a kind and gentle soul. Cabot is a jerk.

Yes, this class is HARD but Prof. Collins teaches the material in a way that is dummy-proof. His questions seem more factually based rather than conceptual, but nonetheless, know everything! Make sure you see him during his office hours and clarify confusing concepts or test questions.

Prof Collins is a great lecturer. Presents information clearly and takes time to explain confusing concepts. Don't take that as "no need to study" - quite the contrary. This course is quite detailed (but very interesting) in the physiological processes that occurs in humans (and some other animals); in other words, you NEED TO STUDY.

Collins treats students w/ respect n tries to make students understand stuff w/o using too many technical terms unlike Cabot. His exams questions r easier than Cabot's partly because Cabot covers topics dat r more detailed n complex. STUDY ENOUGH b4 exam n STUDY PREVIOUS EXAMS n kno y answer is right or wrong. This class is interesting n not 2 hard

His material was easier than Cabot's. That may be the only reason why Cabot gets such a bad rap, not to mention the way he words his questions is god-like. But Collins is def. more of a pleasure to listen to, he seems more human than Cabot. Just try and do better only his first and third tests and get his easier questions right on the final.

He is a way better teacher than Cabot. If you want an A in this class just study all of his material which is a lot easier to grasp than Cabot's. Then you'll have at least a 50 on the final. He's a great teacher. If he was teaching the whole coarse than I would have actually learned instead of memorizing old test questions

I don't think anyone can hate this man. But aside from his sparkling personality, he's a concise, knowledgeable, and gifted teacher. His exam questions can get tricky at times but they're very straightforward for the most part. You get what you put in with him.

He's a good professor but he is TOUGH!!! His lectures are crystal clear and he is extremely helpful if you have any doubts. You may know everything from the lectures and and feel prepared, yet when you take the exam, you feel you already failed because the exams are nothing as you expected. He's a fair grader though and curves alot.

He's a good professor but he is TOUGH!!! I swear, his lectures are crystal clear and he is extremely helpful if you have any doubts. You may know everything from the lectures and study for it so much and yet when you take the exam, you feel you already failed because the exams are nothing as you expected. He's a fair grader though and curves alot.

Nice, helpful professor. Nothing spectacular, easier test questions than Cabot, the "good cop". Likes to dwell on non-human animal physiology which isn't that difficult. Know the material, memorize his notes and you're golden. I like Cabot a lot better though maybe because I'm a physio person I'm biased but Collins is the dream professor for most.
