Greek history was a lot of fun with Garland. He's very passionate about his subject. Reading is very important in this class and he really likes the people who speak up. 3 short papers on interesting topics made the class very manageable. He was always ready to help develop a paper topic. Really enjoyed it and would recommend it.

LOVE this man. Smart and encouraging. Knew I was in Greek System and it didn't change a thing- Always available for questions / etc and is brilliant in his field.

Boring, but helpful... until he learned I was in a fraternity, at which point his entire demeanor changed in an instant. From then on he was a complete jerk, ignored my input, scewed me on grades, total change of attitude and completely unprofessional. I've heard of others having the same trouble with him. What a waste.

Prof. Garland is a really nice guy and is super excited about the material for western trad - makes class a lot more bearable. however, he lectures a lot and although he opens things to class discussion, it isn't enough to keep everyone's attention all of the time. His enthusiasm makes up for this overall, though.

Pretty boring, wasn't always prepared for lectures, arbitrary grader. Kiss his ass if you want an A.

Garland is one of my fav. profs at Colgate! He is passionate about the Classics, dedicated to his students, kind, clear, patient, and has a great sense of humor! I looked forward to his classes and feel that my Latin/Greek improved under his guidiance. Truly a delightful professor!

The most amazing professor I have ever studied under. He is patient, empathetic, brilliant, funny, and friendly. Anyone who thinks he is a poor language teacher must just suck horribly at languages. He is a fair grader, and always willing to help a student out. Take a class with him!

He's Great! Even though he is better for material culture classes, Garland is still a wonderful language professor. He is so funny and makes class a joy. He is also very helpful and will work hard with his students.

super hard! I was a science major so perhaps that is partly the reason. I went and talked to him several times though and barely made a C+.

He likes to hear himself talk, but he very knowledgable. He makes you think about papers and appreciate Greek primary sources and what we can get out of them today
