Not help at all from this professor. She tells you constantly use the tutors but they don't help. She also tells you that the test is the study guide. That is lie. This class says no programming knowledge needed, that its a basic course. That's a lie. Its an advanced java course that you need experience for. Most students are already programers.

Helpful and clear. New class so things may change a little. Not someone who would try to screw you over.

organized, clear expectations, tests are easy (relatively) if you go to class and do the labs - nothing unexpected will show up on tests, very helpful, kind, clearly wants you to succeed

Find someone who had this class before you and ask to borrow their notes. You won't have to attend if you have the notes, plus the powerpoint is online. The labs weren't as bad as they seem, try and get more than one done at a time. Must have the book to do the labs!

Steiner gets pissy about people talking in class, but her bark is worse than her bite.

Listening to a person in a coma would be more stimulating. Went to the class once & all she did was read slides that make up the online notes. Occassionally she gave info that wasn't in the notes, but easy to pass the class and never attend. If you really don't know about PCs, it might be useful.

One of the best teachers in the CS department. I took her for the first class of my major (cs 171). I just wish the department wouldn't be so stupid and make her teach non CS major classes (such as C++) rather then upper level CS classes.
