man this is my mans, I absolutely recommend him to anyone that wants an A in the course. he is not boring and does not go off on tangents but like others said he simply puts what he is teaching into terms of modern day examples to better clarify the points he is making. but he is the best.

THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. I took an AP course which was similar to this course and I managed to get a good grade in it, but this teacher could not give any effs about you or your grade. I asked him after class what I could do in order to get a better grade and he shut me out saying "maybe you're not studying correctly" such BS.

He is absolultely HORRIBLEEE. he goes off in tangents all the time. he doesnt speak clearly, he just mumbles a lot..SAVE YOURSELF DONT TAKE THIS CLASS..

Very friendly, smart, and never got off topic, but rather made references and analogies to the real world so students can understand his points. I can see how a less educated or a little challenged student might have hard time understanding those analogies. His jokes are on point and perfectly timed and never once were they offending or off topic

WHAT THE PERSON BELOW SAID IF YOU DONT SHOW UP TO CLASS THEN YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE MAKE UP EXAM AND THAT'S PRETTY ROUGH ALOT OF SHORT ANSWER PRETTY HELPFUL TEACHER THE TEST FORMAT USUALLY 24 MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS DOESN'T COUNT FOUR OF THEM BUT YOU HAVE TO APPLY YOURSELF YOU HAVE THREE TEST A PAPER AND THE FINAL THAT'LL MAKE OR BREAK YOUR GRADE.

He offers make-up tests if you miss a test or just want more time to do them but them take the entire semester to give them to you & they are all short answer instead of multiple choice like the original tests he gives out. Wish all of his notes were on Power Point so I could have listened more instead of just trying to write notes the entire time.

He goes on tangents a lot. The tests are beyond simple. He can not use technology. Skim the textbook, copy his lectures, get an A. Incredibly lovable guy. He is very dedicated to the subject matter. He has been a teacher all his life; he teaches because he likes to, not because he has to. Good humored. Intelligent. Good guy.

The most boring history class I've ever been in. He goes off on tangents and tells the same stories over and over again. He sounds like the guy off the dry eyes commercial. Don't take this class.

If you show up, copy his notes (he breaks everything down on slides), and read the material, there is no way you can't ace the class. He has a five question buffer on his exams also. He is dry sometimes, but this is college, not highschool. You can't just show up and get and A. Study easy notes, read, get an A. Don't, and fail. Simple.

all the good things written hear are most probably written by himself. it does't matter if u study or not. Trust me don't mess up your GPA. stay away or get F in this class !

Dont take his class, his exam is too hard, you dont even know where those questions come from. a lot of students confused about his lecture cuz he is too old and he doents know what he is talking about. he confuses himself too. there is no point to wast your money on his class.

I was just reading the text publisher's chapter summary and a wave of sadness hit me. When your dry text makes the material more enjoyable than the prof does, you're in trouble. One of the most interesting historical topics out there rendered COMPLETELY unpalatable. Olsen talks down to students, repeats himself constantly. He can ruin it for you.

I love Dr. Olsen! I didn't have much appreciation for history before the class, but lectures are relevant, he has a clear perspective on what he teaches, makes it relatable to today! Interesting lectures, smart man. If you attend class and allow yourself to love the subject, you will get an A and walk out with a better worldview!

One of the easiest A's you can come across at NOVA.. seriously. 3 exams derived right from lectures and an easy paper (although his lectures are quite boring and completely off subject most of the time). Nice guy, dry humor, talks about his cat & personal life sometimes more than the subject matter.

Easy A, if you follow the study guides he gives...Only ONE paper assingment, just do the reading and take notes in class and you will be ok. He might not be the coolest teacher ever but just follow directions and will get an A

He sucks: i don't know how else I can descrbe him: he is boring as hell, confusing and goes often off topic: it's time for him to retire he is seriously to old to teach i feel bad for all the new students registering for his class: You guys have no idea what mess you're into !

Olsen is a nice teacher, although i would recommend to AVOID HIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS! he's the most boring teachers I've ever had. He gets off topic, from talking about history, to talking about his cat!? You only take 3 exams and that will be your grade,i got an A but i had to read all the chapters on my own,b/c i didnt get a word of what he said
