ENGR213 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: Mandatory Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Sorta interested Grade Received: B

You might as well take the class online. This teacher starts the year requiring iclickers to make the college money and ends the first day of class saying "by the way, i will not cover all the material in class, there simply is not enough time." Then he fills his lectures with proofs and never covers a practice problem front to end. 0 stars

It may seem like Dr Mellendorf has an impenetrable layer of aloofness from his students, but after several semesters, it will get better (hang in there!). Homework is somewhat akin to eating spinach. His tests aren't too bad if you know the material well, but time is short. He's worth taking (well, he's the only option) and not as bad as most think

He is very long-winded whenever he answers questions, and gives vague, theoretical explanations that don't actually help with the homework. I can count on one finger the number of example problems he's done in class to completion. His tests are easy, but with a really, really short time limit. Count on your quizzes and lab grade to keep you afloat.

His physics courses are very tough. The only thing that kept me afloat was the homework, but it takes an extremely long time to do the homework how he wants it. He seems to abnormally LOVE physics, but doesn't seem to know how to teach it to someone who is not on his level with the subject. Good luck with this guy.

Phys212 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: It's my life Grade Received: N/A

Lectures are almost useless for learning the material and doing the homework. One positive about the class is there are a lot of ways to get points with all the different homework assignments. Be prepared to only have two actual days of class. The other days are grading other people's homework and taking quizzes. The quizzes are helpful at least.

Bad teacher, the only thing that makes him smile is when he fantasizes about students spending hours doing homework. Worst part is, he has a monopoly on the physics courses since no other teacher will teach it and its required for most engineering degrees.

Not sure why everyone thinks this guy is a genius. He overtalks everything to make himself appear extremely smart. He has a good understanding of basic physics principles but doesn't explain things very well. Lectures are agonizing! Bring something to do.

Mellendorf is a highly incompentent man. While he has a pretty high knowledge of physics, he has no idea how to get it across to normal people. Do not take him unless you want to withstand his irregular, boring style of teaching.

I am not kidding when I say he is the smartest man I know. Unfortunately, his intelligence is inversely proportional to his teaching ability. He knows what he is talking about, but he is rather boring. Also, most of the lecture will be filled with him over-explaining something easy. Make friends with your book, you are going to need it.

Extremely intelligent man. Good teacher when you can focus through his slowly spoken, long winded lectures. If you need help, get him during his office hours. Very good at explaining terms and concepts in a one on one environment. Little known secret: M-Dorf has crazy good dancing skills.

Very intelligent and is probably too intelligent to be teaching a freshman level course in physics. Is really good at helping students to get the ideas though, if sometimes a bit long winded.

I'm not certain why this guy is at ICC when he should be teaching graduate level courses at MIT. No one in the world knows more about physics than this guy. Ultra-intelligent and very helpful, even if he's a little socially awkward, but what science person isn't? But seriously, Mellendorf, get a job at a university. You're wasting your talent here!

His level of intelligence is astounding! Unfortnately superintelligence doesnt always equate to great teaching skills. But he's aware of his faults & is fixing them. Gives lots of ways to gain points. Never had a class where the tests count so little towards final grades(7.5% each.) Beware though, the textbook is one of the worst ever written!!!

I don't think he is as bad as he sounds. Definitely a lot of work outside of class. The test are the hardes part but he lets you use a help sheet. There is a lot of room to keep your grade up with homework, quizzes, labs, and questions in class- like i said... its a LOT of work

He is an awesome man and there is no doubt that he knows all there is to know about physics. The homework was very difficult, but it was do-able. The quizzes and online homework were easy. The tests were pretty difficult as well. A lot of people dropped the class. Overall, the course isn't too bad as long as you are willing to work.

Very cool teacher, he can be a little strange at times. The labs can take a while but over all not bad. The grading scale is very decent and he lets you use a cheat sheet on tests. His quizes are usually at the end of the hour and on a regular basis, but you can work together in groups. Very decent teacher.

Very nice man. I would not reccomend unless you have some prevous knowledge of physics. It is obvous he tries extremly hard to teach the subject well, but his lectures are just plain boring. Much of the class is independent learning because he only glazes over the top of subjects or focuses on specific points not on tests or homework.
