She is too political for a classroom setting. She gives her own biased opinions instead of just teaching facts. Not what I expect from an academic atmosphere.

I took Intersections. The mandatory attendance is really annoying, but I understand why it's needed. The class itself changed my way of thinking a lot. Prof Duggan is definitely passionate, which is the best thing an instructor can be. One thing: she doesn't do ppt slides, and instead writes notes on the board. So sit in the front and be attentive.

I had her (with Gopinath) for Race, Gender and Sexuality in US History. She's a little too political for me at times but she knows a lot about what she's saying and is very accessible.

Her teaching style: assigns highly polemical, journalistic style books under the assumption that they are more "accessible," then requires each student to write a book report (and present this report to the class- her idea of active engagement) and all this so that "entitled students" can't get "by on good prose style" (a direct quote from her)

Her lectures are very interesting. The class is reading and writing intensive and even has a recitation section that TAs lead. Participation is key. Can't get an A without reading the assigned book a week (sometimes more).

Duggan's class still change your world. She is a tough teacher. Lots and lots of work but truly exciting and interesting work. Get ready for lots of reading and writing but an extremely fair grading system.

Very interesting and fun approach in lecture and the class left me with a new way to think and approach things. Always looked forward to attending. Probably the most work I've ever had for one class but if you put the time in, even if you're struggling a lot with the material while doing it, you will be rewarded under her very fair grading policy.

I took Intersections: Race, Gender, and Sexuality with Professor Duggan. She is passionate about what she teaches and her lectures are great. She expects a lot of her students (attendance is mandatory, read a book a week and write a paper) but the class is definitely worth it.

I came away from this class learning to think in a way that I never considered. Not only did we learn a whole bit of US history that I hadn't been exposed to, but I feel like I am able to interpret new information from an entirely different lens. Great class-- as mentioned, a lot of work, but way worth it.

She presents history through a perspective that I had never considered. Her lectures are EXTREMELY interesting and though biased, leave you with room to grapple with the ideas on your own. I actually wish she would've lectured more (she showed a few too many films). A LOT of work, but it will challenge you to think differently about history.

This professor works you very hard, however the experience of this class is worth all the work. I learned a great deal of information and had every opportunity to voice my opinion through various means. I enjoyed learning in this class and would recommend it to anyone who is willing to work hard.

Prof. Duggan requires a lot of work but is a brilliant mind and can teach you so much if you are interested in learning.

I liked the class and the lectures, but the attendance policy was absolutely INSANE! I definitely would NOT recommend this professor!

Prof Duggan is nice enough, but her lectures are tedious, and she's kind of a nazi regarding her attendance policy. SHE herself would have failed her class based on her own record. It's a lot of work, but you WILL learn a lot. But, if you do the work AND participate you can do quite well.

Duggan was such a great teacher, and the lectures were sooo interesting. You learn so many new things about our history. A LOT of reading, but it's worth it.

She is very smart, but requires a LOT of reading. Take this class only if you are prepared to do the work, trust me, its worth it.
