ARTH 102
Amazing class, incredible professor. Mandatory trips to museums, which is a great excuse to get out and explore DC. Straightforward and interesting lectures. Prof. Tilney is always willing to meet outside of class if necessary. She puts cute videos in her powerpoints and just wants everyone to have fun and learn a lot. Definitely take this class!

I had her for Renaissance to Modern Art History and she is amazing. Each lecture is amazing, and while you do need to put in a lot of hours for the tests/papers, there is not a lot of other work. She teaches you a lot and very well. I EXTREMELY recommend her to anyone with any interest in Art History, she is the reason I am now minoring in it.

So interesting. Really passionate and very knowledgeable. Interesting assignments. Not an easy A, and A LOT of memorisation of paintings (200 per midterm/final). Asks you to go to galleries. She is really interested in what people think and very kind. Perfect for anyone who wants a fun class which will give them a good foundation for art history.

Take Tilney. No background knowledge in art history required. As long as you attend and pay attention to lectures and just suck it up and cram studying about 100 paintings the night before the midterm and final (not as bad as it sounds) you will get an A. Almost no work required.

I'd already taken AP Art History prior to taking her for Renaissance to Modern Art so I knew most of the material but I loved this class! She mad lectures really fun with clever anecdotes and clips that feature famous paintings. The class covers a lot of material very quickly but Tilney is fabulous and makes lectures fun and engaging.

A really fun class to take whether to just initiate some spark for majoring/ minoring or to fulfill gen eds. 3 easy looking assignments (trips to museums required), midterm, final, and a 5-7 paper during the finals week. Not too much workload, just pay attention in class.

she is ok in her subject, certainly knowledgeable but teaches art in terms of her own specialties. took forever to get grades back and her approach in a lot of period barely scratched the surface. if youve taken art classes before you may feel under challenged and uninterested

TAKE HER CLASS. You will never regret it. She made me want to major in art history, a subject I'd never even considered before. Class is entertaining and informative (participation and attendance are important) and the readings are light (textbook isn't really necessary because lectures are so thorough). Office hours help a lot. She's just awesome.

Came in knowing nothing and came out learning a ton. She's very nice and lenient with deadlines for papers. The looking assignments are interesting, and the final paper's easy. Memorize in advance for the midterm and final, and it should be a cakewalk. Lectures can be long/ routine with slides, but the class overall was wonderful. Tilney's awesome!
ARTH102
She is very nice and helpful but keep up with slides or else studying for the midterm and final will be kind of a pain. Fun assignments at the National Gallery and 2-3 3 page papers.

I loved this professor and the class. She's so friendly and fair (ex: being flexible with exam/due dates and dropping questions no one gets). She wants you to get something out of the class and get a good grade. Don't bother buying the book; just go to class. The subject can be dry, but she's a great lecturer. It rounds out a practical education.

I LOVE THIS CLASS. I would definitely take anything with Tilney; she is laid-back, yet knowledgeble and passionate about her subject. I was interested in the subject to begin with, but even those who didn't care to do extra work for this class did well if they went to lectures.

Prof Tilney is knowledgeable, nice and at times funny. She shows movie clips every so often, but can be quite boring since every class is essentially the same: turn the lights off and look at slides. The course I took was art history, but there was almost no reference to the corresponding times. Still, has fun trips to the National Gallery.

I LOVED this class! She explains everything clearly and even breaks up the slides with movie clips. She's a very fair grader - you're graded on the midterm, final, research paper and some looking assignments at the National Galley. Interesting and fun class - take her!

She is one of the best teachers I have had at Georgetown. Really engaging and interesting. As a science person, this class is a great way to fulfill your Gateway English class without having to write tons of essays. She plays clips in class and tell about the interesting personal lives of the artist
