CHEM 223 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

I had Prof Grohmann for orgo 2 back in 2002. He was such an effective professor that I still remember organic chem today. I am a bio professor and use his techniques of using the logical approach that I learned from Dr. Grohmann. Take his class and sit in the front seat. Watch and learn how he shows electron pushing. Memorize the reagents and think

This guy is not worth of it. This guy won't take care of your grade. He does curve, but it won't help you out from C. Maybe 3 students got A from his class last semester. Unclear, a lack of english, his accent, no partial credits. I had 3.9 gpa, and it ruined my gpa to 3.4 or so.

Chem224 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: You need it sometimes Rater Interest: It's my life Grade Received: N/A

This class was the epitome of disorganization from start to finish. Lectures were haphazard, exams were incomprehensible with no partial credit and the grading was anything but standardized. This class truly reflected the failure of an educator to both motivate and foster his students to achieve success.

Very disorganized, his notes are useless b/c he jumps from one thing to another in seconds. Exams are long and difficult. If you really want to learn orgo and have it thought in a way that you would enjoy take a different professor.

WHOA, KIDS. Slow down if you're heading towards him. He's a brilliant and a very sociable man with a great sense of humor. But he is a lightning fast and a disorganized lecturer and he is brutal on exams. Be cautious.

He knows his stuff but it is difficult to follow his notes and he goes too fast. If u want to do well do not take any other science classes and prepare to study. Very intense not like other hunter classes.

CHEM222 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

He is an amazing professor! I got an A and I had to work my butt off for it. Seriously, studying for his class is a full time job. RECORD his lectures and relisten to them before tests. He pulls test questions from there and his practice exams. Go to his office hours! He is so helpful and available whenever you need him!

I was not afraid of "hard",having gotten all A's up to this point, but no amount of studying seems to help on his brutal exams. Never gives partial credit. A 30pt question may have multiple steps but, ultimately, only one correct answer. Avg exam scores have been 45 out of 120--37.5% Not kidding. It's frustrating. Maybe a grad student can like him.

OMG u go in hoping to learn but instead you leave more confused. studying out of the book for his test is not a good idea you have to be writing down everyword he says or else u wont know whats goin on when u read over ur notes. he jumps from board 1 to board 5 in 2 seconds and then goes to board 3... very obfuscating . dont take

does the best he can given this totally difficult subject. its the hardest class i've taken so far, memorization is more important than understanding. the Prof. is excellent in being available and very helpfull off class, really cares for those who care.

BEST chem professor! You have to listen carefully or record his lecture to really appreciate how good he is. To do well in the class all you need is good notes and listening skills. You need 300 points out of 400 for an A. If you got a problem with him, you don't know how to study or are lazy. You have to earn the grade, it's not free.

Chem 224 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: N/A Rater Interest: Sorta interested Grade Received: N/A

His lectures are horrible, and this is coming from a person who has done pretty well in Chemistry before I took him. He does not tell you what topic he will be covering at the start of the class. He just starts scribbling reactions that are nothing at all like what you read in the book. The average for most tests is about 50%. A nightmare.

He is not all over the place! You have to focus in his class, and take good notes/ record the lecture and he will make lots of sense. He moves at a steady speed to cover 14 different chapters, but backtracks when asked questions. The thing is not everybody has/gives(?) what it takes to understand organic chemistry.

CHEM 222 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: N/A Rater Interest: It's my life Grade Received: N/A

Extremely enthusiastic; comes up with greeeaaat examples to illustrate his point and answer questions; very willing and available to help; gives out practice exam with at least 60% of the questions he will ask on the actual exam (just changes #s). Gives excellent notes (has strong German accent, but very understandable). GREAT notes.

Orgo I Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: N/A Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

One of the WORST professors I have ever had. Penmanship is atrocious, jumps from topic to topic. This man has a good heart, but his teaching is scattered, fragmented, and stressful. Yes, Orgo is hard, but he is a poor conveyer of information

I felt, his buttons are pressed by the administration. I believe, he has been asked to NOT teach chem BUT to help weed out weaklings. Don't take him. He is NOT organized, sure takes questions but cryptically asnwers them. Good man maybe, but a bad teacher for sure.

Organic Chem 1 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: N/A Rater Interest: Low Grade Received: N/A

OK, I'm an old fart and took Prof. Grohman's class back in 1981. I was so intimidated and confused after the first few lectures that I decided to rely solely on the textbook. I couldn't follow a thing he said. If G tested on material not in the text, so be it. My strategy worked, and I eked out an A. I'm still proud of it.

Pr. Grohman, or G-Unit I like to affectionately call him, is THE BEST science teacher I have learned from. A great deal of work is required, but G-Unit puts in more effort than he expects from his students. A walking textbook and repeatedly edited the textbook suring lectures. Exams are very difficult. You are priviledged if you get into his class.

Grohmann offers good explanations of difficult concepts. But his exams are difficult and nothing like the HW. He gets the questions probably from science journals. He will drop off hints of whats on the exam in class, so pay attention. He does skip from one topic to the next, often I get lost but just copy the notes anyway and figure it out later.

CHEM 223 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: N/A Rater Interest: Meh Grade Received: N/A

An excellent professor who encourages his students to understand rather than just memorize. Very difficult for those (like myself) who hate going to class and would rather just read the book -- don't try it with him. He grades harshly, but to paraphrase MLK, "the arc of Dr. Grohmann's curve is long, but it curves towards higher grades."
