PHIL 133 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Meh Grade Received: N/A

Dr. Stemwedel is a very nice, clear, helpful instructor. She has a PhD in Chemistry and brings a lot of insight to the ethics class regarding research from her own experience. I didn't read anything and passed with an A. She tells you what she expects in the final and gives you the answers. Easy A.

PHIL 160 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: Mandatory Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: It's my life Grade Received: A

IMO, all philosophy classes are difficult in the sense that they are abstract and very conceptual. Stemwedel made it much more painless because she's an interesting person and is very enthusiastic about her lectures. Friendly, approachable, and easy to ask for help. Go to class, pay attention, and you won't even need to read the textbook at all.

Only beef is that she was to passive. She tends to agree with every student which is cool but you can tell she wants to tear them apart. Also, you can tell she is a hardcore feminist but tends to keep that to herself... I would have loved to argued with her like previous prof's but she tends to be PC. She needs to rip into students more, its fun!

Great professor! Her lectures are clear and she's a very fair grader. Attendance is highly encouraged unless you'd rather read the boring textbook/course reader. Pay attention in class and you should do well.

She was a great teacher. Her material was clear, useful, and on-topic! Her grading was fair and her tests were slightly difficult but appropriate. The coursework was manageable and you can learn something useful if you pay attention! Overall, a good class that I would recommend!

My favorite class of the semester, really liked it. Didn't learn anything at all, my major is business there was not point of taking philosophy besides the upper GE requirements at SJSU. Got a A-.

This prof. is great. She makes a boring subject interesting by mixing up her lecture style (some pwr pt/some not). The lectures are fast pace so expect your hand to hurt when trying to keep up. The essays are easy if you doing the reading, and Stem. is very good about making the reading more comprehensible. If you want to learn, attend the class.

Whether you enjoy this class really comes down to a few basic features about who you are as a student.Do you know how to read? Are you somewhat intelligent? Are you and interesting person?Do you prefer to work hard to achieve real results? Do you know how to think? Do you find thinking fun? If you said no to any of these questions, skip this class.

I found the subject pretty boring, but she does a great job of keeping us interested and making it a little more relevant. She is really nice and explains everything very clearly. 5 short reading responses and 1 midterm. Going to class makes the reading responses a lot easier to write.

philosophy of science is a dry subject that would be difficult for anyone to teach. that being said, dont expect to be enthralled in prof. stemwedel's class. boring, but benefits are well planned, easy assignments and thoroughness of lectures. would reccomend for a requirement if you have not a lot of choices.

Her lectures are very informative and easy to understand compared to just reading the textbook. I would recommend that just read the text for the reading assignments and forget the reading the rest because it does not help until she lectures on it. She grades very harshly. Gives study guides for exams. She is a good professor.

As a person she's a very nice lady that you can go to with questions about the class and her chemistry background. Her teaching is somewhat dry but her assignments are planned out on the syllabus and rarely change. $30 reader- I stopped reading 3 weeks into the class and still got an A. No midterm, just a final on case studies- be specfic.

Her explanations were very clear, every class had a short review of last class's material. The topics may seem dry and useless to those not used to philosophical subjects. However if you understand the subject well it can easily applied to almost anything in life. I recommend this class to deep thinkers, anyone looking 4 an ez A should stay away.

phil 160 has concepts quite hard to understand, in particular, in the reading portion. The professor, in this case, made it managable. I got a decent grade, depite. Tests will focus on lecture note.

Avoid this class, it is not worth the pain just to satisfy you GE requirements. i am a honor roll student, struggling to comprehend this class.her notes are confusing and unclear, and she has an attitude when students ask questions. she can be very rude and biased. lots of hw assignments. i do NOT recommend this professor at all

The reading will seem like a daunting task, and it pretty much is. I didn't read the reader provided unless I knew it would be on an exam. She is a very easy grader (unless her TA grades), but there are a large amount of papers. As a psych major, the papers I write are much longer, so these seemed easy but will be hard if your not used to writing.

Dr. S. is an enthusiastic, thought-provoking teacher. I enjoyed her class (taken for my major) much more than I thought I would. The required reading was a bit daunting, but you could get by with diligently attending class (you will need to read for the writing assignments-13 of them!). If you do the work and write well, you'll get a good grade.
