I really enjoyed his interactive approach to teaching. Instead of lecturing for an hour and 45 minutes, he allowed students to give their own insight into the relevant course topics, which really enlivened the classroom. If you want to be an active participant and learn to engage with material as it applies to the real world, take him!

One of the best professors I've had. Really changes the way you think, I recommend taking any class by him. He makes you read the NY Times which seems difficult at first but is so valuable, still read it to this day

My very first Upper Division class. Although challenging, he really brings out the best in students, challenges us - makes us think outside the box. Perhaps cliche, its the truth. He doesn't want students to believe what professors tells us, he wants them to find out for themselves. Amazing, BEST PROFESSOR I've had at UCSC. Thanks Ryan.

I have taken two courses with Professor Coonerty. His classes are not easy, but he is knowledgeable and will always go well out of his way to make sure you know the material. His lectures are always interesting, mostly because he is hilarious when you listen to what he says. Take a class with him, he is a staple of the UCSC Legal Studies program.

Coonerty is AWESOME. He's super interesting, clear about the topics and very knowledgeable. He's also hilarious. His class led me to switch majors.

Ryan is very personable and helpful. Class material is very dense and far from easy, but Ryan makes instruction to be an exciting, relevant, and worthy experience. Highly recommended. Shaped my decision to attend Law School.

Taken Coonerty 2 times now and I really enjoy his class. Hes a very smart guy and knows a lot about the subjects hes teaching and a very influential person. If I could I would probably take every class at UCSC with him. Doesnt mean hes easy, its because he knows how to reach out. Clas requires a good amount of ready if you want to succeed.take him

Ryan is a great professor! If you can?t handle reading the newspaper - then you don?t belong in college anyways. Take advantage of his office hours ? he is a great resource: very knowledgeable and willing to help. Has a great sense of humor; his laugh will undoubtedly bring a smile to your face ? it?s the cutest thing I have ever heard...

I took 3 classes over the years and overall, though I like him as a person, he's really a terrible professor. Echo to the negative comments - frequently cancelled lecturers, begins late, ends early, i've covered a terms worth of his material in the intro to other classes with rigorous professors, no joke. High school level teaching - easy easy A.

If you're thinking about law school be prepared for him to challenge your desire to actually pursue a JD. Knows his stuff. The lectures are extremely entertaining if you are interested in the law. Those who aren't I find have a hard time following. His lectures were very clearly organized. Tests were very fair and challenged you to think. Take good notes and you'll mostly be okay.

Ryan Coonerty was by far the worst professor i have ever had. He spent all of his time sharing his philosophies instead of actually teaching. The rest of the lectures were filled with Guests, and Ryan did nothing. Thanks a lot Coonerty.

I didn't care for him as a professor. Lectures were frequently canceled and there were far too many guest lecturers. He spent a ton of time on the news, which was interesting, but sometimes overwhelmed the actual material. The tests were completely random- poorly written and rarely on what he said they would be. Seemed smug and full of himself.

CIVIL LIBERTIES with Ryan is a must! He's such an awesome professor. His lectures are easy to follow along, he has a boyish charm to his teachings, open to student's opinions. He definitely makes class enjoyable.
