Some might call Prof. Muir an idealist; I would say that he is enlightened and challenges us all to be better people. In a university full of students ready to backstab each other to get better grades, and ultimately, as high an income as possible, Prof. Muir reminds us that good, honest work has value in and of itself. The conservatism - a plus!

Sandy is a bit dry and boring. Other times, he's outrageous and borderline offensive. But all in all, this is a man that is a true teacher with a kind and caring heart. He really wants what is best for his students. He knows the material inside and out and is very accessible.I dreaded going to class and ended up enjoying it.

Professor Muir was one of the most boring professors I have had yet. His class is very easy, but all GSI's have a different grading scale, though they are VERY helpful. Professor Muir, though he's very nice, is extremely boring & sits in front of the class reading off 15-20 pages of notes which are posted online. Boring, but easy.

A very jolly and happy man, but an extremely horrible lecturer. I didn't like Poli Sci in the first place, but he made me hate it even more. Reads his lectures monotously and extremely fast, really hard to follow. He has lecture notes online, but they are extremely long too and not that understandable. Exams weren't that hard, though.

The work and material is easy but getting through it is TEDIOUS. He reads his lectures and puts you to sleep if youre not carefull. Sweet old man though, quite famous. You should google him :)

The class is pretty easy. Prof Muir doesn't grade the papers or midterms. Grades depend on the GSI. Most thought lectures were boring but I thought they weren't too bad. We had one midterm and one final worth 1/3 of grade, one big paper worth 1/3 and participation grade (three papers) worth 1/3. We focused on Tocqueville/Federalist Papers a lot.

Very nice guy, but his right wing bias sticks out like a sore thumb and he doesn't hide it... but it is actually a breath of fresh air at Berkeley. Easy course, but still interesting and fun reading, recommended.

Imagine a political science course taught by your mom's amiable old uncle. Hella nice guy, but his lectures are not exactly noted for their intellectual rigor. Still, Professor Muir is a campus institution and it'd be a shame to miss out on his wisdom, even if you do have to share him with 900 other students crammed into Wheeler Auditorium.

Unbelievably boring lectures, including lots of random tangents in which he said whatever came to mind, even if it was completely wrong. For example, he claimed that Marx killed babies. His understanding of Tocqueville, whom he loves, is at about the third grade level. I love political theory, and I wished I could get up and tell him how wrong h

I took him when I was a freshman (3 years ago). The man is very kind. It's always funny to see idiotic socialists complain about the man's conservatism. I personally see him as more of a moderate.

The professor cares abt the topics and also his students. He can be funny at times although most of the time he would just read out of the book, so i don't find that helpful, you have to do your own reading. I stop going to class because it's so hard to stay awake. I like the professor a lot though.

Genuinely loves students and is delighted to hear about our personal undertakings. Approachable but emeritus, so special arrangements need to be made for office hours. Asks interestings questions and enoucrages debates/discussion. A fresh change from the arrogant professors of everywhere.

Excellent professor. Very idealistic. Conservatism is not a problem (remember Berkeley is filled with wacked out libs, he's actually moderate by normal standards).

A very nice humble professor. He has a lot of conservative opinions, like unregulated capitalism makes good people. I don't know how he believes this when we have had over 200 years of class warfare and labor disputes. But an easy and interesting class.

Great professor. Didn't like his overly conservative views, but still a good and funny professor. Friends told me that they wouldn't mind sitting down by a fire and hearing about his days in the Reagan (yeah, I know. . .) administration.
