This class is dependent on your understanding of the material... and Dr. Selampinar doesn't care if you know it or not. She is extremely confusing and I would recommend avoiding this class at all costs.

"Tough Grader" "Skip class? You won't pass."

1127 is the hardest class I've ever taken. All Fatma does is do problems on the projector during lecture. The exams are very hard and it takes a lot of studying to do alright. I've heard different things about the TA's, but personally, mine was a very hard grader for labs and discussion assignments, and he barely spoke english.

Chemistry killed my GPA.. No matter how hard I tried, I failed. There id no way to pass this class unless you pass the exams because its 70% of the whole class. If you can avoid this class, please do.

Had to drop class. It was the hardest thing ever. The average for the first two exams were in the 50's and that was out of 800 students! AVOID THIS CLASS. Take it at a regional campus or a lower level if possible.

Professor Selampinar is a little difficult to understand but you get used to it after the first few weeks. I always attended lecture and found them to be extremley useful. That combined with her review sessions before the exams helped solidify my knowledge on the material. Definely do the problemsets for practice problems and study for lab quizes.

Both 1127 and 1128 are taught by terrible teachers, and the Chem department has no idea what it's doing. But if you had to pick one, Selampinar is the only professor worth going to lectures of (people skip their own teacher's sections to go to hers) and that's saying something. Basically avoid gen chem if you can.

Nice lady, bad teacher. She doesn't explain well. Gives handouts and then just does them on the projector without explaining her steps or thinking. I take thorough notes from the book to help me understand and OWLs actually help you understand better, too.

Best professor I had all semester, she does a great job of explaining examples and making sure you fully understand before moving on. Gives plenty of review for exams as well. Highly recommend.

Professor Selampinar is outstanding. She gives great eamples during lectures and is more than willing to help if you see her during office hours. Tests are difficult but if you review her notes, read the textbook, and do the review sheets you will be fine

Switched halfway through the year into Selampinar's lectures. She is by far the best professor/lecturer of all the 1127 professors. She also holds alot of power and knows alot of information as she is head of the department

CHEM1127 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Meh Grade Received: N/A

All she does in lecture are examples from her own notes that she neither explains or elaborates on. You must assume where she is working from, it is very unclear. Then she puts problems on her exams that we have never seen before. It is no surprise she is on academic probation for failing too many students.

1127Q Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: Low Grade Received: N/A

She uses a projector while she lectures to write notes and examples. I didn't like this because she moved quickly through the examples without explaining the steps she took to get the answer. The exams are much harder than the examples shared in class. I ended up teaching myself everything using the textbook, which was very time consuming.

She was a great professor. She genuinely cares about her students and is always available to help. The course isn't necessarily a breeze, but if you put in the necessary work, its really not too tough.

She's a decent professor, especially in a hard course like chem. You will have to study a lot to see good results however. Went into the class thinking she would be horrible, but she taught well.

Despite what some people say about her, Prof. Selampinar is actually the best chemistry teacher I have ever had. Her style of teaching worked for me. I hated chemistry to begin with and now I'm declaring it as my major. Give her a chance and you won't regret it.

She is an absolutely wonderful professor and person. She really cares about the students and she wants you to understand chemistry. Chemistry is hard, and it's not any easier with anyone else. Best chem prof I have had so far, she teaches you everything you need to know for the exams. She's always really helpful and emails back SUPER fast.

Dr. Selampinar is the best chem teacher I have had, and I have had Morey and have gone to Oppenheim's lecture. She is a nice lady who is very approachable and helpful. She teaches you what you need to know for the exams. I mean come on, you can't expect a weed out college course to just hand you an A. If you put in the time an A is doable.

Chem1128Q Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: Essential to passing Rater Interest: It's my life Grade Received: N/A

I am a Chemistry major and I personally didn't like the way she taught. Though she does know her material she quickly gets off topic, preferring to make jokes with the people sitting in the front row. Do all of the problem sets and if your TA is not helping you go to her office hours, but be warned she will consistently call on you in lecture.

Such a good professor. I loved her teaching style. I took both chem1127 and 1128 with her and she is the best. She is hysterical in class as well as extremely helpful during her office hours. By far my favoriate professor at Uconn. Definitely take gen chem with her.
