He wrote some amazing lecture notes (probably a decade or so ago) and follows them to the T. Just do the hw problems he gives during class. Offered us practice test questions during the semester, some of which appeared on the test (changed values but kept same concept). Class is pointless except the questions he offers for practice. got an A

The labs we did in class were fun, but I didn't actually learn anything from this class. I didn't learn anything all semester.

I can't agree with the last comment. Prof. Varley is very clear and considerate. He practically gives free points just by showing up for recitation, in addition to study sheets. Good pace, and all around humorous guy. The examples in class, will be similar to questions in the exam. Read the book, don't except an easy A without working for it.

I don't know how anyone can fail this class. Just go to all the lectures and do his workshops. Using the textbook was useless, since he posts all his lectures online. Friendly and very helpful.

great professor...made the class very easy. Very helpful as well. He can be a bit clumsy...

Excellent professor! The best of the best! Very nice guy and loves teaching. Hunter should clone this guy and have him teach every subject. Very clear and concise. All around great guy!

he wont give up on you if you dont give up on yourself. I recommend taking his class. He's funny and serious at the same time.

I love prof. Varley! His teaching style is pleasant and so very interesting. He is humble and patient enough to listen to student trying to disprove physics laws... He is also surprisingly funny; sometimes I went to class just to have a good time.

Professor Varley exemplifies the TEACHER-professor. He is dedicated to assuring intelligibility. He is among the MOST patient of profs I have had; a corollary is that his painstaking style may honestly not be suited for those for prodigies for whom college is merely a formality of previous reading they have completed. Highly recommended.

Online lecture notes make it alright to not attend at all, but that would be a sin. Easy going. Monotonous, but surprisingly funny. Dedicated to teaching well, as he participated in helped teach a course taught by Mills and Roitberg. Tests were REALLY fun. Exam problems come from in-class workshops. Excellent teaching methods.

Amazing Professor!Very helpfull!Very nice person to talk to.Take his class and you won't regret.Exams were ok, but it doesn't mean that you don't have to study.Review notes , do the hw and you'll be fine.
MATH 385
For this class he posted his lectures on-line, which made it easy to follow his lectures and study for exams. In general, his exams are average, but it seemed to me that the final was harder. His personality is nice, and he is responsive to questions. Good professor.
