HILARIOUS
TOUGH GRADER
SKIP CLASS? YOU WON'T PASS.
Even after this semester being long over, I still don't really know what to think of Kevin Miles. He's a funny and interesting guy, but like a lot of really smart individuals, Kevin isn't really a people person. He was what I can only really describe as antagonistic to some of his students, with two people leaving this class. (a required seminar!) |

GRADED BY FEW THINGS
SO MANY PAPERS
Kevin Miles was very hard on one girl in our class. She ended up having to leave. He picks on students with mental health problems and seems to really think that those with those problems are somehow weak. He went on several anti-trigger warning rants and was unapologetic in his sternness. I did well with him But I cant support him |

Kevin is such a terrible professor he is rude, impersonable and makes no accommodation for a student with problems outside of class. |

TOUGH GRADER
Kevin Miles is a miserably hateful and self centred man. He makes his classes entirely about his religious interpretation of the world. Women never talk in this class and his lack of respect for his students is so uncomfortable to see. He presents his class as an open discussion but his intimidating and overwhelming opinions close the discussion. |

TOUGH GRADER
PARTICIPATION MATTERS
I'm not sure why people on here have received Kevin poorly; he is caring, accessible, and honestly hilarious. He will only grade you down if your argument is poor. I debated with Kevin often, and he is very open to new ideas IF they are supported by an argument. If you truly want to grow as a human being, Kevin's classes are the ones to take at EC. |

Hands down one of the worst professors I've ever had. I transferred into Earlham and was enrolled in his Ancient Greek Philosophy class until I decided to drop it since I despised the atmosphere. The class was male-dominated and the discussion was controlled by Kevin and a few other arrogant guys who thought they had the answers to everything. |

A great many comments about Kevin seem to come from students who only pursued an intro course. My experience, having worked with him as teacher and adviser for 4 years is that he is exceptionally bright and driven, and expects the same of students. Prepare to work hard, and if you disagree with him, prepare your proof. We've done it more than once. |

I am a Muslim student and I believe that Kevin may have discriminated against me for that reason, and many of my classmates agreed. He is no help what so ever and is always looking for an argument. The worst professor I've had at Earlham...very discouraging individual. |

I think the quality of the prof is reflected in the number of students in my class: 16 went down to 7. He sparked my interest in philo, but so much of that interest is predicated on trying to go against him. He says that he only cares about how much thought goes into your work, but there is a definite correlation between grades and comportment. |

Like a previous user said, males will speak more in his class because he is a grossly intimidating egotistical man. He does not want originality in your ideas. Instead he'd like you to agree with his ideas, biased as they may be. His class is a shipwreck and he does not teach within the classroom dynamics. Instead he teaches within his. |

I noticed that as long as I didn't question his interpretation of the texts I got excellent scores. Disagreeing with interpretations were almost always met with lower scores, even if lots of extra effort was put into the project. Really, really loves Villanova and often goes on long tangents about how much more awesome it is than Earlham. |

Taking Kevin's class is the intellectual equivalent of falling off a ladder into a deep well. I kept reaching out to try and take hold of a rung or something else familiar and it took until summer for my eyes to adjust enough to see where I had landed. All college classes should expand your mind and challenge your beliefs like this. |

Kevin is an animated teacher who has great passion for his work but I feel that this ability as a professor is hampered by the fact that he allows his personal feelings to affect his judgments. I never had any problems with him and got a good grade in his class but i definitely saw him antagonize some individuals. |

I've taken a few classes with Kevin, and he is easily the best professor I've ever had. Enthusiastic, entertaining, passionate about the material, but also challenging. He expects alot from his students. I noticed several students were intimidated by this, but I never quite got why? Great professor! |

He's not the best, not the worst. His academic credentials -- Depaul/Villanova -- reflect the competency level you can expect from him -- not top tier, not bottom tier. And he seems to overcompensate for his insecurities, which can be annoying. He's pretty structured so his classes are not difficult to stay on top of. |

Kevin thrives on the violence inherent in the university system to the point of absolute cruelty. The man is obsessed with securing his own position of power over students (and even some other professors). This makes much of his teaching laughable, unfortunately. |

kevin is okay, he has an interesting perspective on philosophy and doesn't just teach it the same old way; he challenges it. however, he's pretty **** and seems to me to just have replaced any white privilege he might have had with a ton of male privilege. he doesn't make room for women in his classrooms and that's discouraging. |
