Very, very knowledgeable professor - I thought her lectures were really interesting & I learned SO much. However, when it came to major assignments, I found her directions vague and the professor herself downright unhelpful. Don't expect a lot of guidance. Don't take the class if you want to be coddled.

what an awful, awful teacher. I hated her course. She belittled students who disagreed with her and was incredibly disrespectful to students if they didn't accept her worldview.

If you've taken Introduction to Women's Studies, you've taken Gender, Race and Class in the U.S. It's ridiculous that they are BOTH required.

She loves to ramble to fill up time. Talks and talks and talks just to fill the remaining part of class. Rushes through material. Has a superiority complex about her being from NY, and openly looks down on Midwesterners. Spends a disappropriate amount of time on gender studies material even when the class she's teaching has nothing to do with it.

Prof Lewin went fast during Anthropology and Contemporary World Issues lectures, i had to bring my laptop to get everything down. The TAs were great in going over things in discussion and she is very knowledgeable and adds comments during lecture that are funny and interesting. Doing the readings and attending lecture are required to do well.

Ellen is knowledgable, but has a tendency to get off track or let students that don't know what they are talking about talk about one minute too long.

Ellen is a joy to be in class with. She's really fun in a discussion setting and has lots of experiences to contribute. The class wasn't easy, but it was ok and I learned a ton about Feminist Ethnography.

I actually agree with this Professor about most political views but saw her silencing and shutting people down which was disrespectful and scared people. If she's made up her mind, then she thinks nobody else needs to hear anything more about a view. That's not teaching and it's not feminist either. It's self congratulating in front of students.
Intro.
While I'm leftist and generally agree with the majority of Lewin's politics, I was frequently enraged by the way she silences or speaks over more conservative voices in the classroom. Discourse is allowed only within certain boundries. Also, if you have any knowledge of feminist history or theory, you should skip this class. Basic as hell.

This professor doesn't tolerate fools or opportunists without caustic comment - may explain the first reviewer's venom. Really interesting readings and lively discussions though often wildly off topic. Wings it, so best when teaching feminist theory or anthropology - avoid otherwise.
