BIO1009W Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: Mandatory Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Low Grade Received: A

If you are a Liberal Arts major who does not want to think even moderately far beyond the textbook material then avoid this professor. If you do not want to hear about interesting applications of biology, avoid this prof. If you want to get your bio credit and move on, avoid this prof. If you're an inquisitive person give Dr. Fan a chance.

BIOL 1009 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: What textbook? Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

He is hard to follow in lecture, and frequently goes off topic and it is hard to keep up with what's important to know and what's not. His tests are fairly easy, just read his power points and really understand the diagrams and you should be fine! Not worth attending lecture. (About a fifth of my class did)

Very hard to follow and understand. He has a terrible stuttering problem and the link quizzes are pointless. He also uses information not in the U of M textbook for the class.

I am so confused about this teacher but i still have to say to the person below me that it is not a Chinese teacher but a japanese teacher, you can know that we you add note in slide. Anyway, as an international student, don't choose this one!!! you will have a hard time to understand everything.

He had a heavy Chinese accent, and was extremely difficult to understand. His power points and lectures were disorganized and difficult to follow. The homework were easy, but a waste of my time. If you have him as a professor, I recommend you don't attend his lectures, and use what he talks about in the power point as a guide to the textbook.

He was absolutely the worst instructor I have ever had; poorly organized, perpetually confused, assigns useless link quizzes, and he does not care even one bit if understand the material.

Prof Fan is extremely confusing. He seems nice enough, but he goes off topic and doesn't cover much material. His test questions don't seem horribly difficult, but I would suggest avoiding him if possible. He definitely made me lose interest in biology.

Really bad teacher. I feel bad saying that because he's a decent guy but AWFUL teacher. Sorry dude. This class could have been pretty interesting if it were taught well. Huge bummer.

He made everything required to pass his class very clear immediately. Once things clicked in, it was very easy to understand. Sometimes hard to follow but if you listen at the proper level things become obvious.

The worst teacher I have ever had. Class isn't even worth attending. Makes absolute no sense and when you ask questions he confuses you even more. You have online link quizzes that are absolutely worthless as well

I would avoid his class if you can. There are 12 Link Quizzes that are easy but they are used in discussion during the next lecture. In which he calls on random names and if you don't answer you lose a point. There's no additional credit if you are called on. Goes of topic all the time and is hard to follow even though he knows his biology.

His lectures are very confusing. He tends to spend immense time talking about nothing and then only having 3 or 4 slides covering the actual material that you need to know. He ends up spending so much time on meaningless material that the lectures are pointless. On a positive note, most of his test questions for this class were fairly easy.

Goes off on irrelevant tangents and is very difficult to follow. Taking notes is almost impossible at the speed he moves through important slides.
