Rikkers is the most FANtastic director in the country, for the largest marching band in the country, yes? The guy is great and one of the funniest people I know. Do marching band at JMU, its a big time commitment, but you won't regret it for a second!

Scott Rikkers is an amazing man. He is dedicated to making music on the field. Marching band is a huge time commitment though, don't sign up if you can't be committed to attending.

He is FANtastic! With great love for his students, he closes practice often with helpful life tips and experiences he has had. Very fair. And he does his best to know each of the 450+ members of the MRD by name and a little bit about them. He is FANtastic!!

Scott does a fantastic job directing the MRD. He has been at JMU for 8 years now and continues to make improvements. Marching Band is very fun activity and it gives you two credits. It is a large time commitment, but the benefits are outstanding. Very interesting, humorous and respectful professor.

Marching Band is a huge time commitment so DO NOT TAKE unless you know you cant commit Friday nights and most Saturdays. If you are an alternate..you have to challenge. I would recommend doing anything not to be an alternate because its really embarrassing and awkward. I had to have a meeting with him and he's really nice, try not t be intimidated

Although I have had him for the MRDs and Concert Band, I really appreciate his Marching Band Procedures class. Its A LOT of work, but you get out what you put in. Its a lot of good materials to use out in the teaching field, and he really cares about making sure that all of the students in that class succeed. Its a really amazing class.

Great sense of humor, great end to each day. Serious about working hard and attendance, but marching helps form a great sense of community and love for JMU.

You can tell that Mr. Rikkers really cares about the marching band program here and he really wants all of his students to do well, not just in marching band but in their classes too. He works hard to make the band play and march so well!

GREAT! Practices can seem a little pointless some days but it in general provides a good escape from the pressures and normal routine of school. He cares about each, individual member and it shows! DO IT!

can be a bit overbearing with how much he makes us do sometimes, considering its college and most arent new to this, but hes a real nice guy and personable. he also cares about the program a lot, and it has its payoffs, though we could stand to work more on marching, overall good resulting band
