ECON 303 Taken for Credit:Yes Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: You need it sometimes Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A
"Clear grading criteria" "Skip class? You won't pass." "Would take again"

He launches into material expecting you to have read the book but I found it easier to read after the fact for clarification. Focuses on algebra and problem solving and explains while writing that out so be prepared to take notes very quickly. Don't skip class, but if you do, don't skip test review because the problems are very similar.

Find another instructor for macro if at all possible. Lots of quizzes and exams that don't pertain to what his lectures were about which were just reading over PowerPoints. Majority trick questions. He also acts like he doesn't see students raising their hands. You'll fail if you miss more than a few classes and be lucky to get a C if attend daily.

"Get ready to read" "Lectures are long"

Spends most of the class mumbling. If you ask him a question, good luck getting a clear answer (or an answer at all). Tests and quizzes get more difficult with the trickiest wording. Hates technology, berates those who use their phones or even laptops all semester long. Attend for the 3% final grade curve.

Attend because you get 3% curve on you're total grade if you attend all the classes. I don't recommend this professor he is very rude to students and his tests are not testing your knowledge on the subject rather how knowledgeable you are on what the professor wants you to say, I strongly suggest you look for a different professor to save your GPA

"Tests? Not many" "Tests are tough" "Get ready to read"

Started out well, nearly getting 100 percent on the first exam then as the semester went on the quizzes and the second test got harder and more confusing. Failed the second test and the avg was VERY low (refused to curve). Tests consist of nearly all trick questions as well as some material not covered in the book or class. Would not recommend.

Dr. Malamud is a brilliant man. He has a reputation for giving dry lectures and for being rude to students. This can definitely be true. But if you're and econ major, taking a class with him is a must. If you put in the effort, read the book, visit his office if needed, and attend all lectures, you'll learn a lot. Tough exams, but merciful grader.

Terrible instructor. Gets mad when you are confused and doesn't explain concepts well at all. Doesn't care if people talk in class but if he sees you texting he'll kick you out. All the exams are extremely difficult and poorly written. When you ask for clarification he gets upset and doesn't clarify. Avoid this professor at all costs.

The material is straightforward, but good luck staying awake in class. He is so boring. He doesn't explain things well, but if you read the textbook you'll be fine. The SI sessions helped to clarify the material. 4 multiple choice exams w/ about 40 questions (final has 80). Takes attendance w/ iClicker Qs.

Horrible professor. Daily clicker scores, so attendance is required, however even this clicker questions are absurdly difficult sometimes so you lose out. 4 tests, all of which are very hard. Useless in class examples, poor clarification, overly complex explanantions. He is simply an awful professor, I would take someone else if you can help it.

Mr Malamud is a caring prof. His exams& ppt notes are purely based on THE BOOK and he posts ppt's online!Important to read the book! Also you can not hear him but he gave my class extra credit opportunities on the exams. And he curves final grades! Also it is VERY IMPORTANT TO ATTEND CLASSES for clicker scores! GO TO Suplimental Instruction!!!

Yes, he knows a lot, but his lectures are pretty boring, he just mumbles and its pretty hard to listen to him sometimes, any sign of disruption notices and flips off. Laughs at he's own jokes. If you like monotone professors, I highly recommend him.

A lot easier than Econ-303. For final exam, you are given a list of books to choose from (about Subprime Mortage Crises)and give a summary. Tests in general are not that hard. Good class to take overall.

Took 303 over the summer and that was a lot of infomation to digest. I would not recommend it, the final was 19 pages long. He can be boring at times, but being bored is a state of mind that you should not indulge in. He really knows his stuff and will help you out in his office. He loves talking about "The Green Shaft"

ECON442 Taken for Credit:N/A Attendance: N/A Textbook Use: You need it sometimes Rater Interest: Really into it Grade Received: N/A

This course was pretty easy. For me, I found Malamud to be a decent enough lecturer. Most others say he's the most boring teacher they've had. Sometimes he laughs at his own jokes or gets a kick out of his own lectures, that can be a bit funny. He can be extremely moody and will not hesitate to kick students out if they're not paying attention.

Second test is the hardest. Final is copy and paste from other exams. Read the book, and you should do fine. He blocks the board a lot by standing in front of what he writes. Extremely boring, but you will learn. Allows for rewrites, and curves at the end. I had a mid-B going into the final and ended up with a solid A.

Malamud is DEFINITELY an expert in economics, but not an expert in teaching.. He means well with his lectures and teaches with passion but details get lost when he skips over steps and subtleties that he believes are common knowledge. You can pass the class, just plan on doing a lot of studying and be overly prepared for all the tests!

I've had Malamud for 2 classes. The second time around in 463 was much easier. His lectures were better blueprints for his exams. The first couple of days are dry, but his next few months of work is a barrage of information. Be ready, be calm, and show up. Worst thing to do is to miss one of his classes.

Easier than ECON303. Lectures can be dry but he's a wealth of knowledge. Essay questions exams, may 1-2 essay pop quizzes. Highly recommended for Econ majors. His classes requires effort, learning, and stimulates understanding. I Don't miss his lectures, taking good class notes and not falling asleep will benefit your exam grades the most.

Top notch economics professor who is knowledgeable in economics, math, history and current events. Exams are all essays and difficult. Attend all the classes, take detail notes of all the diagrams, and reading the book is mandatory to understand the material. Very challenging course. Study groups recommended. Dry lectures but u'll learn a lot
