Dr. Alaie is the best! Yes this class is really hard, but so is life. Her tests are hard, but fair. I will say if your TA is Alison you're screwed. You will be challenged to think about the material inside, backwards, and upside down. If you're not willing to work really hard, then maybe you really should reconsider med/vet/dental school.

Worst class i have ever taken at Hunter. The grading system is terrible. I study my ass off for the lab practical and the lecture exams and i still end up getting a F. This is BIO102, an intro class, not BIO99999. I guess i have to take this $^@#% class again...

If you want to enjoy your time in college and have the option of not taking this class with her, do yourself a favor and keep away. Terrible grading system, test essay questions very general but rubric requires VERY specific responses. Not enough time on exams, most of the time. Multiple choice questions are ambiguous and require much analysis.
BIO 102
She is a nice lady and obviously loves teaching this subject. However, when you are stuck with an AWFUL lab professor and TA, nothing can help you. Grading is clearly NOT standardized when grading essays. Yes, she is interesting, but by the end of the class I was more demoralized than interested.

She's awesome. Those complaining got bad grades, and aren't accepting it's their fault. She gave you tools to succeed you didn't use. Test questions ask you to see connections in the concepts and not just spit back rote memorized answers. Not fair? Those are the types of questions you face in life. 7.5 EC points out of 100. Earn a B to receive an A

I would not recommend this class to anyone. This is the worst class I have ever taken. Terrible grading system and testing method. This class is designed to fail students. I wish I had listened to other people and not taken this class at Hunter.

Dr. Alaie is an amazing lecturer. I love going to class and don't even notice the time. However, like what everybody here says, the MC text is VERY challenging. Go to lecture. Go to recitation. Read the textbook like its the Bible. Review your notes. And if possible make a rap song about the material so you'll remember it. Lol.

She is a very nice person but alas her exams are bone breaking heart crunching, but if you are up for a challenge I will recommend this class! Its very easily possible to get even an A+, but the amount of work that you would need to put in would probably get you two A+s in other classes.......

She is a very nice woman; however, her multiple choice is way too difficult. You can pass in all aspects of the class and still receive a pitiful grade just because of her multiple choice. In addition she makes the multiple choice count as so much of the grade that you can know the material but still barely pass the class. I'd stay away.

I received a B and though i was not satisfied, i know that if i had worked harder i would have got an A. Exams are extremely hard, hardest I've taken. essay grading isn't really fair. spent hours everyday for the class and still got a B

Best prof at Hunter. Fascinating lectures, great sense of humor, very helpful and kind. Treats students like adults and really knows how to teach. You will learn a ton, but you have to work hard. Don't fool yourself that you can skim the text and know what you are talking about. You need to be able to explain the concepts.

One of the most challenging, but also most interesting classes I ever took. She is an amazing lecturer - engaging, ethusiastic and funny. The key to success in this class (I got an A) is to ORGANIZE what you know in such form that allows you to write a scientific essay. Those essay grades are essential, so focus on them. Good luck!

I am fascinated by Dr. Alaie. I find it incredibly hard to teach such a huge class, and sincerely believe she is trying to do her best. The class is hard... I was studying as hard as I could, still doing slightly better than Failing!!! Exams are impossible! Well, I guess MCAT is worse anyway! Good luck!

Horrible Professor. Her exams do not test only biology, they test logic as well. She would fail her own exams. She enjoys failing students which I'm sure is a result of someone screwing her over in life. Don't listen to her saying if u fail this class choose a diff career. GPA is what is important so take this class elsewhere.

Worst class. The class material is not difficult. However, testing conditions make it impossible for students to do well, as there is not enough time to complete multiple choice and essays. Tests are skewed and designed to trick students. This class is the opposite of learning - it's torture.

I enjoyed the material covered, but I didn't find Prof. Alaie's teaching very helpful to my understanding and retention of the material, or for test prep. I did the reading, went to every lecture, studied my ass off, used tutoring, and was often explaining concepts to other students, but got only a B. I don't know what more I could've done!

Look around you if you're in the class. 200 of the people you're looking at are no credits. They are the same people who don't put their names or codes on tests and then all the grades get delayed. Top of the hat to those people; enjoy your F averages and good riddance for second semester. Hopefully there aren't any delays next semester...

The question is do you go to get a grade or to learn. I am not all that confident about my grade, but Dr. Alaie taught me a great deal this semester. McGregor is an exceptional teacher, but Alaie is an Ivy League quality lecturer at a CUNY price. Ivy League students would know how to succeed in her course and be happy she was so good.
